This might be Fitz's best move as GM, certainly up there along with trading for siegenthaler and drafting Mercer 18OA.

All the Sevo trade rumors make so much sense, but I remember he said something last yr. I read as he would take a team friendly discount to be a life long Devil. Due to that combined w/ Dougies 🗑season, thinking outside the box maybe Fitz starts the season w/ Marino on the 3rd pair w/ Walsh & B.Smith as his D partner depending the team while watching how well Dougie actually fits in NJ or if Severson's breakout was a fluke. If Sevo plays better📈 than Dougie📉 + will extend for cheaper possibly NJ trades Hamilton in a shocking blockbuster❗️

This team has a chance to surprise the league this year. Our 6 defenseman, for the first time in a long time, are all very good. If our forwards can stay healthy and we even get just average goaltending, we’ll definitely be watching meaningful games come March.

I’m still upset about Marino being traded. The thing about the return is it doesn’t make much sense to me is we just had Rutta signed, still have Dumo and Pettersson on the left side with Friedman and POJ looking to make the line up full time. And now we have Ty Smith in that mix and Ruhwedel is more than likely to lose his spot which sucks cause he has played a big part of our defence and PK. I honestly would’ve just taken a 1st and 3rd or 2nd for Marino if that’s what the deal was going to be. But to Devils fans, he’s a very solid shutdown defencemen and can help improve your teams defence and PK. Unfortunately it means possibly losing Severson but at least Marino is on a very reasonable contract with some term.

3 yrs I told a NJD ticket rep Ty Smith was a bad pick. Said I was crazy. Oh said the same thing drafting Holtz over Askarov
