C’est enfin arrivé Jesper Bratt SIGNE UN CONTRAT D’UN AN AVEC LES DIABLES DU NEW JERSEY ! Yep, and they hired Ryan McGill as Assistant Coach- Good move!
Better one year than none
The Devils will look to trade Jesper Bratt, prospects Alexander Holtz and Nolan Foote and a 2023 1st-rounder to the Blues for Vladimir Tarasenko.
6.5 sounds pretty reasonable, i like Fitz a lot and think he's done a great job, but not sure of his thinking here
I wanted this, let him prove himself
Sorry, Bratt needs to prove himself, and one year does not an 8 MILLION per, contract make. Bear in mind, he WAS a 6th rounder after all. He hasn’t had the promise that a number one pick has, hence a 7-8 million dollar contract isn’t as easily gotten.
It appears that what Jesper Bratt wanted was a bridge deal so that he could cash out again at age 28 and Fitz didn't want to entertain that at a high AAV. Bratt's agent is also a thorn in Fitz side as this is his only meal ticket. It is just as much a gamble for Bratt as it is for the Devils organization. I think Bratt is just getting started in hitting his prime. He is going to get paid.
Probably the best thing you can do
I think its the right move for both parties. He seems driven and I bet he’ll keep popping off. If he has another great year then Fitz can pay him a nice salary for a longer term. Just hope he doesn’t get injured or anything
At least this didn't go to arbitration. We don't need another Bill Guerin.
I like the deal, Fitzy dont wanna get burned, let him prove he can do it again, and b consistent with his numbers.. i dont think Bratt will fall off, like Zacha but lets make sure of it, and than offer a 5-7 yr deal.. i like the number as well.. under 6
Great low risk move. Bratt has to better this year.
quick heads up guys we will still have cap space so no worries after the season
Good move hope he does well fingers crossed
I see bratt Hughes and mercer playing well
Ok ,I am glad they got a deal worked out for Bratt, although I feel it shouldn't have been for anything more then 5 mill on a prove yourself contract with just one real good season, despite the benching's, the scratches first the inconsistent and lazy play he displayed at time's throughout season, I also feel if he declines and has another season like the repeated benching's and scratches then, Fitz should look to trading him ,just like I feel Fitz should just try trading Wood in a package and Resign Zetterlund.
Good deal for both sides but I’m disappointed they weren’t able to sign a long term deal. I think he could be traded at some point.
With Tatar, Johnsson, Bernier, Graves, Severson, and bunch of one-year depth contracts coming off the books, there's no reason for us not to splurge on him long term. Signing Jack, Hischier, AND Bratt all to under $9M contracts would easily be the best cap management in the league next to the Sakic's work with a Avs, and that is not praise I say lightly after seeing how much a monster that team has become. Especially with the cap rising every year. Jack's 8×8 contract is easily going to be the best contract in hockey by the time the cap rises by 10M.
good signing. bratt needs to show one more all star year if he wants to get over 6.5 million a year. both sides showed their hand. bratts play this year will decide his contract next off season.
Rangers fan here, can’t be anything but impressed on the Devils rebuild and future. Very excited to see both teams competing with their young talented teams. Rivalry restored!!!
Fair value, Bratt and his agent want the opportunity to repeat this year's success for a bigger pay day next summer. Hope he lights it up this year – that way we either lock him in knowing the player he is for real, or trade him at a higher value if he doesn't want to be in NJ long-term.
I'm disappointed in Fitzgerald for low balling Bratt. Again. He was almost in the 30 goal club last year but he did it without ever being selfish. His real best quality is the chemistry he provides with Nico and Hughes. That took years and hundreds of games to achieve. So I'd expect Bratt to be done being a Devil mentally with a 4.5 mil offer holding the process up again this year. That's an embarrassment. Fitzgerald is a good GM. Not a great GM. I'd expect this sets Bratt up for a trade this year. Might be wrong but I think he's done for long term here and I wanted to keep him. If Fitzie really wanted to keep Bratt long term he would have given him 6.5 for this year as a show of confidence. Anyway he can be used as a piece to get a 10 million dollar forward now.
Smells like Bratt and or Wood get shipped at the deadline…. after The Devils do not make the playoffs again.
