  1. Cossa was picked for ceiling, not how good he is right now. It will be ok. I'm sure this conversation will continue for years to come. Both goaltenders will be good in the long run.

  2. Wallstedt played against men in a pro league while Cossa played against kids…wonder why Wallstedt developed faster..

  3. I've said it before, but I cannot wait for Wallstedt to play for the Wild so he can officially be known as 'The Great Wall of St. Paul'

  4. As someone who likes red wings, i am still so sad about redwings not picking wallstedt. I am swedish so might be biased but i feel that wallstedt is objectivly best. He is insane.

  5. Wallstedt is just insane. If minnesota for some reason would offer a Trade 1 for 1 i think redwings will be jumping out of their chairs.

  6. I still find it strange that yzerman went with Cossa over Wallstedt. Cossa just doesn’t seem to fit the MO yzerman has outside of being a big competitor. Wallstedt seemed like a no brainer yzerman pick with his steady keep it simple stupid approach

  7. Listen I’m a wings guy. It’s tough to look at what Wally is doing that cossa is not. Especially when cossa plays against people his age and Wally plays with older men. I’m not worried about cossa by any means, but this isn’t something we as wings fans can turn our heads on when we could of had either of the two players

  8. I am so excited we were able to nab Wallstedt here in MN. A potential franchise goalie being passed up by so many clubs including Edmonton who has been a goalie hellhole for years. This maybe a rare mistake by Yzerman but time will tell. Both clubs have great management teams so all is going to be ok in Detroit and Minnesota for the upcoming years. Right now however, it is leaning towards Wallstedt being the better pick.

  9. That article is premature and so is this video. But I guess you need fluff pieces for people to read and watch. Both of these guys are young and it's a little early to make any decisions on either of them. There's also more to picking a prospect than just numbers.

  10. Cannot believe Ken Holland traded down off the 20th spot to 22nd in 2021 Draft. MIN immediately took Wallsteadt while EDM is left without a Goalie of the near future again. I believe it was Judd Brackett that made the assessment.

  11. When both goalies were drafted, it was generally accepted that Wallstedt was more developed as a goalie, but Cossa possibly had a higher ceiling. I doubt one junior tournament in which Cossa played 1 game, changes that.

  12. Yzerman said it himself he's letting Cossa develop as much as he can before joining the club. Just look at Vaselevskiy, Yzerman picked him in the 1st round from a trade with detroit in 2012 and didn't join Tampa until 2015. He's our Vas in the making.

  13. Guy is still not even 20, we've seen it 100 times where the GT that does not get the start ends up being better or the the GT that wins all the games disappears on way to the show. It's tough to say, let's hope both these guys battle it out in the future. I like both GM's going after a GT they think highly of vs not doing it and 3-5 years later sniffing around for whatever GT is available at a very high price for trade or UFA signing.

  14. The detractors about Wellstedt was he did not stick handle the puck well, had no vision on outlet passes, and virtually no poke check abilities down low in traffic. He played deep in the crease and would not venture out for timely moments to get to the puck. Maybe Jesper has worked on these things.
Did Cossa have the same negatives? probably, but Steve saw more value instead of Jesper.

  15. Cossa didn't even play at juniors. Canada could put a dog turd in as goalie and dominate the world.

  16. JW has been playing with pros. Yzerman drafted Cossa for his ceiling not his floor.

  17. “Imagine thinking you know more than Yzerman”- any Wings fan replying to a dissenting opinion
