    I think the misconception a lot of people have is that the Oilers can simply call up players for short term injuries. For me, that's the biggest issue with having to run a short roster to get under the cap. If they don't clear cap room, having a 21 man roster leaves the team exposed to playing games not just at 11-7, but at less than 18 skaters. If a player is sick or injured, but not put on put on LTIR (in other words, not out for 10+ games), the Oilers will not be able to replace that person on the roster. So with 21 players, any more than one guy out at a time and they are now playing with a short roster. This happened a lot to Vegas last year, and it hurt them.
