The direction and future of this franchise is fucked

  2. xiamhunterx

do you guys think avs fans are upset now that they missed the playoffs a bunch in the 2010s

  3. Jmthrows

Okay but like for real this time, can we fire John Hynes?

  4. Kupp3y1

Wasted most of my night watching that. Might be time to miss some games until changes are made

    A couple of notes:

I become convinced today that the one issue with this team was our breakouts / rush. Our defense was failing because they didn’t know how to move the puck out of the D zone and our offense was struggling because we didn’t know how to get the puck into the Ozone without dumping. The transition game is what was missing.

Being able to move the puck out of our zone and into the other zone seems to have changed. We don’t immediately dump. We pass diagonally, the puck carriers stops and sets up the zone, we look for a tape to tape pass. It makes our zone possession easier because we start with possession instead of establishing it.

The offensive system is still a little simple but it’s more effective. The pass from the corner to the slot is still more hopeful than useful but our shots from the point are more effective because we have zone control before they shot. That allows the screener to get into position, set their feet and get their head up.

It makes our D zone exits easier because our forwards are ready to transition. Our D has looked lost but I wondered if it’s because they weren’t worried about how to play D but how to play O. Getting the forwards prepared to set up in our offensive zone helps them on the breakout, which helps the D on their zone exits.

I’m not mad we lost this game. We were almost always going to lose this game. This is a positive loss, not a negative loss. We played positively, offensively, and with our skilled kids on the ice. If we’re going to lose, let’s lose like this.

Just as a final note – part of the « success » of tonight was that we had our skill players in, who can more effectively manage stuff like this. Hopefully Hynes will commit to playing them in the future and keep building off today.

Didn’t watch the game tonight. How did Lauzon and McDonagh look?

This is the team that David wanted. It’s the style of hockey he wanted, it’s the coach he wanted, and the players he wanted. So if you want to keep blaming John Hynes for doing exactly what he was brought here to do then go ahead, but your anger is misplaced. Never really thought he was a good hire, and definitely hate the  » identity » they believe they’ve created. Nothing is going to change on this team or with their trajectory while David Poile is general manager. He’s had a quarter of a century and this is the product we are stuck with.

It’s bad that I’ve gotten numb to this so early in the season. Really want to see juice turn it around as the season progresses and I want to see the guys have fun playing hockey again.

  9. Smeagol224

What adjustments has this team even attempted to make during this terrible start to the season?

  10. Rinne4Vezina

Can we leave the bald man in Colorado?

  11. Birdhawk

There’s a show called Love Is Blind and on the new season there’s a guy named Cole who looks so much like Roman Josi.

Anyway, this roster is filled with a lot of irrelevance. Jeannot is the only bottom 6 player who has any effect on the game and the top 6 has flashes of good but zero consistent threats and no clutch guys. The players are failing, the coaching is failing, and the front office is failing. Change one of those 3 and I don’t have confidence it’ll change anything about the other 2.

  12. BW_RedY1618

John Hynes makes me ashamed to be a bald.

  13. EWall100

We’re missing two big things in this « Competitive Rebuild. » Being competitive in games and rebuilding this awful roster. I have no clue which one is more important right now, but Poile is either a bold faced liar or has the hockey IQ of a banana
