  1. I agree.. they never need Tavares. they never had a goal scoring problem.. The only thing they have is goal scoring.. As a captain he failed to deliver leadership.. Matthews can take it to the next level with the right mentor. Matthews, Marner, Nylander have never learned from a true captain and warrior.. Hopefully its not too late

  2. Nothing will help this team! trading one guy, or a few guys will make no difference. The team stinks right from the top! You could get the tandem of Patrick Roy and Martin Brodeur at their peak and it wouldn't help this bunch. Look at how good Freddy Andersen looks in Carolina where he has a team of MEN playing hard on the puck WITH structure!!

Fire the brain-trust, hire some men to find some man in the draft! Not lawn jockeys and garden gnomes! Sorry but both Marner and Nylander should be the first to go! Both play like little girls! Marner is a tiny guy that can not compete in the playoffs and never will! Nylander is just a SLUG!! REBUILD this mess!!!!

  3. There is only one player i wouldnt trade. thats AM. but now its too late for 2022. give MM, JT and Willy one last chance to perform in the playoffs. because we want success in the playoffs. if they dont perform, all 3 should be considered.

  4. "hes stil a point a game player" – what is the big deal about that? so many point per game players with way less salary! You can get like 3 solid players for 11 million which make their team way better than one 11 million good center, that once injured kills your team.

  5. I get the point thats its hard to move him, but stop defending him like he is worth every penny. Call it what it is he is a major factor not allowing this team to make a balanced roster and is not living up to the 11 million dollar hype.

  6. Pretty open and shut case here. For them to go out and land Tavares to return home and be the face of the franchise was the right move. Giving him 11 Mil was not. He wanted to come home and they could have said you need to take 7×7 and become the love of Toronto. Failing that if he said no…. We would have today Matthews, Kadri as the one two punch. Upside on Tavares is he plays a hard checking and defensive roll. Issue is the contract is too long for him to maintain this. Do I expect him to score 40 no… do I expect him to decline yes. So deal and money was terrible but was the right move at the time. Should have just said 7 mil or nothing. We were fine at C with Matthews and Kadri.

  7. If they even consider trading Nylander instead of Tavares they are insane. Tavares and his clunky style of hockey has never fit the Leafs and is the one player holding them back especially with tough cap decisions upcoming.

  8. Leafs made to the first round 2 years in a row and lost in the first round both those years as underdogs in very close series….. The biggest mistake was signing and chasing Tavares! What once was a blossoming core on the rise with 3 key prospects only to sign became a laterally moving team tight to the cap because of Tavares, when all the while Kadri becomes expendable at a fraction of Tavares contract and is the better 2nd line option as a player in almost every category you could want in a 2nd line center over Tavares except maybe faceoff %, Tavares was over 60% all last year at that…… Without a doubt chasing Tavares and casting out Kadri was this team biggest set back!

  9. Steve, using non-calls against JT as your key argument as to why he is so good does not resonate. Sounds a bit like whining to me – who in the heck analyzes that anyway?? You would need to review tape of every player in the league and compare it, which is total nonsense and a waste of time. Pretty feeble, but will resonate with Leaf fans that are brainwashed into a rage by any little "Woe is me" point – kind of like Republicans in the U.S.
