Harold Snepsts Dave Fortier Jack McIlhargey Andy Spruce Dennis Ververgaert Garry Monahan Chris Oddleifson Ron Sedlbauer Brad Gassoff Don Lever Larry Goodenough Bob Dailey Hilliard Graves Bobby Lalonde Larry Carriere Mike Robitaille Rick Blight Caesar Maniago Dennis Kearns John Gould

great uniforms, no helmets…the good old days!
niceeeeeeeeeeeeeee
The Canuck's original stickboy from 1970 is still with the team today. His name is Ron Shute and he was a substitute teacher at my junior high school in South Surrey. If you watch Canuck games he's the guy behind the bench with a mustache and glasses. He's rarely mentioned but is truly the longest-serving Canuck employee!
The San Jose Sharks were in the Smythe Division briefly when they first came into the league.
That mask looks pretty cool
great uni's
The greatest hockey team ever assembled. Haha!
backup goalie with crossed hockey sticks on mask is Curt Ridley i believe
Great stuff, thanks for posting. It's amazing but the Canucks original "stick boy" is still with the team making him perhaps the longest serving Canuck employee. His name is Ron Shute and can seen behind the bench or taking sticks from the players before they go into the dressing room. Silver-haired guy with mustache and glasses. He was my substitute teacher in 1970 and was a hero to the students!
omg pacific coliseum hasnt changed that much :l i go there for vancouver giants games lol i was sitting close to where the guy with the camera was…and that whole section looks the same
Unfortunately, this was after their 2 good years in the 70's: 1974-75 & 1975-76. 1976-77 was the start of many horrendous years for The Canucks. They got rid of Gary Smith after he uttered some disparaging remarks about the owners' wife? Andre Boudrias left etc. and the team took a nosedive. Still its fascinating footage with a young Harold Snepsts, and Don Lever, who was almost the first 40 goal scorer for the team.
@Moonshine418 Calgary was in the Patrick Div for its 1st season…where former Atlanta resided. Ilse,Flyers,Rangers,Flames,Caps. next year the Flames moved to the Smythe…The Blues moved to the Norris and the Pens replaced Flames in the Patrick…loved that early 80's Adams Div. Mtl,Bost,Buff,Hartford,Que. When the NHL expanded to 18 teams (74/75) the original adams div. had Calif Seals in it along with Tor,Bost,& Buff. L.A. was in the Norris for a while…loved that 1 vs 16 playoff format
Great video and so glad someone took the time to record and share. Thanks for posting.
I love it.Not many helmets.
RIP Rick Blight
I love those jerseys. Glad they brought them back
@cdncajun no way really? thats cool!
I love those old Canucks uniforms.
I remember Dave Fortier coming up with the Islanders as a defenseman around 1975. He was with them in their first playoff year. The next year he was with the 'Nucks and they played the Isles in a best of 3 first round series which the Isles won in two straight.
#20 Bobby Lalonde? Sanderson and Walton were also on this team…the Smyth that year was real weak division..every team under .500..nice footage though…loved those unis one of the last years before the dark years of some of the ugliest uniforms in sports history…forgot that Maniago played with Vancouver.
@thehockeykid7979 Now they only need to get back that stick logo.
I hadn't realized that Maniago lasted that long in the NHL. I liked him with the North Stars back in the early days of expansion, when he put up pretty good numbers for a so-so team. I don't remember him at all with the Canucks, but being an east coast guy the rare chance to catch them on TV would have been late night anyway. The early Vancouver goalies I remember were Dunc Wilson, who, like Maniago, had a very identifiable mask, and Charlie Hodge, wrapping up a long career.
Damn! Love that you tagged Dennis in this – he was my Uncles best buddy growin up in Grimsby, Ontario. Got an autographed pic/stick from him circa 1975. Also got a pic of me when I was about 5 with him and we're aiming toy guns at each other haha.
I WISHD ID HAD SOME DAY OLD CANUCKS JERSEY
great footage
Great footage….dang, someone said that…..awesome footage!!!!!
Hahaha count the helmets! Cool stuff!!
I liked the helmet worn by Dennis Kearns. An underrated defenceman who never got enough credit.
Wow Don Lever, my dad was friends with him in in high school, my dad always said that he was always practicing in the summer and winter, he said he knew he was gonna make it to the NHL and here we are, it's crazy because you never know where people are going to end up.
No helmets.
Welcome to the Penny (lol)–with the pinwheel on the ice–and the two blue sandwiches in between!
