I hate when a game I want to watch ends up on ESPN! Especially Steve Levy!

That’s why I’m thankful to be a bruins fan lmao you can hate jack edwards as much as you want but at least NESN puts out a great product. Abc, tnt, espn are all absolute trash.

I can’t believe some people were actually excited for ESPN to start broadcasting games.

Overlaying players’ names whenever they touch the puck on the powerplay isn’t distracting at all. If only players would wear jerseys with their names and numbers on them so we could tell who they are the rest of the time!
Between that and the digital scoreboards making players disappear, they’ve really managed to capture what it feels like to watch a glitchy videogame.

ESPN thinks I’m just some dumb hick. They said that to me at a dinner.

ESPN is Disney so they try and reach people who may not watch or are just starting to watch hockey. Also, still better than NBC. Pierre, anyone?

You’re not kidding! I finally got ESPN+ in mid-January, just in time for the CBJ/Flames game in Calgary, since it wasn’t being shown here locally (so, I was able to watch it on ESPN+). Holy crap! It was all, « Johnny Gaudreau this » and « Johnny Hockey that! » They talked about him like he was THE only player playing in that ENTIRE game that day. Pre-game and during the game. At first, as a CBJ fan, I enjoyed it, and thought to myself it was a good thing the Flames fans in Canada couldn’t see this broadcast, or they’d be pissed. But after awhile, even as a CBJ fan, I got tired of it. I love Johnny Hockey, but good grief, it was a CBJ/Flames game with MANY players contributing, not the Johnny Hockey Show! It made me wonder if they bothered to learn who any of the other players were.

The problem is that ESPN caters to casual fans. So most of us watching is like us trying to watch a kids’ educational show. They are definitely puck watchers.

But how is this going to affect Lebron’s legacy?

The Stars Lightning game a few days ago, near the end of the third, tied 1-1, crazy back and forth, and everything time play stops, they cut to Ovechkin doing warm-ups.
I mean seriously? I’d rather see highlights from the game I’m currently watching, or hear about some of those players. Not a game 30 minutes after the end of the current one

It was so foolish of the NHL to sell a chunk of their games to a company, you’re obviously skewing fans by doing this…
…but it was even more foolish to do so with a company like Disney/ESPN who have a known track record of being downright annoyed that they have to cover NHL in any facet. Why on Earth would you think that they could handle your product let alone elevate it?

I don’t get why ESPN gets more love than TNT. Their broadcasts for the NHL and NBA are infinitely more entertaining and insightful than ESPN’s phony and corporate attempts to seem relatable.

This makes me happy that I’m in NYC as a Rangers fan. Don’t have to see stupid nonsense and listen to the worst commentators around. Emily Kaplan is awful and always asks “what was your game plan”. Just waiting for someone to laugh in her face and ask her if that’s a serious question. Have only had to endure ESPN+ and their bullshit once or twice.
