Interested to see how big/small Nashville’s next trade will be. Sources say the Oilers and Preds continue discussions on veteran Dman Mattias Ekholm. Among the options Ken Holland is grinding away on with the deadline looming. @TSNHockey

We are actually in full sell mode. The next few days are going to be so crazy
Gimme that ridiculous return
#David and Barry demand all your firsts!
I think we’re going to see a lot of teams come knocking for Ekholm. The ask on Chychrun and his contract is $4.5m per year. He’s younger and has more potential.
But if you’re a team like Edmonton, Rangers, Caps, Penguins and feel like you have a window and are missing a vet Dman who can keep pucks out of the net, then you’re looking hard to Ekholm.
Pay up Kenny.
At this rate, we’re gonna be Josi, Forsberg and a bunch of AHL guys/prospects and I’m honestly okay with it. Clean house at this point
I don’t want to see Ekky go. Especially not for a lack luster deal like Nino. This trade needs to make that Tanner trade look like pocket change for this to be worthwhile.
McDavid for Ekholm 1 for 1. Fair trade.
So pretty much if you’re looking to get a new Preds jersey, make sure that player has a no movement clause in their contract. Otherwise sit and wait and the jersey might end up on clearance after the trade deadline.
I’d hate to see Ekholm go, but if you’re Edmonton and the Preds are willing to listen to offers, you need to throw the kitchen sink at an Ekholm deal. He could be a HUGE piece of getting them a Cup. They’ve been spinning their wheels during McDavid’s prime, whatever the cost for Ekholm is would certainly be worth it to win it all.
It’s been so long now but I remember back in 2013 or so they had kinda blown it up and finished the year with random guys like Bobby Butler and Joonas Rask, and Forsberg/Jarnkrok who weren’t ready but got to play. It was fun to watch for sure. Hoping that’s how things end this year too. Bring on the Sanfords and Novaks and Jordan Gross
I’m driving up for the Red Wings game. At this rate, we’ll be playing the Admirals.
Everyone should expect this possible deal to be equal to or less than the return for Jeannot because not every GM is going to way overpay for players like Tampa did.
I know some of y’all are sad about this, but I’m sorry to say, trading Ekholm now is trading him at the highest value he’ll probably be at for the rest of his career.
Whether it’s EDM or somewhere else, he could be a great 2nd d-man on a team looking to make a run. Ideal deadline add so we should be excited for Ek to go try and do something great instead of just mentoring young guys in a rebuild until retirement. Happy for him.
McDavid or we riot
Oilers fan here. What’s the book on Ekholm? I know he’s 32, making $6.25M for 3 more seasons, but that’s about it. How is his skating and decision making?
What do we think the return is?
My guess is a 1st rounder, Bourgault (A prospect), and a mid round pick that may have a condition to upgrade based on this years playoff success for the Oilers. Money would have to come back so I could see Puljarvi and Ceci coming back as well as a camp dump
Ekholm would benefit Edmonton immensely and is the exact type of defenseman they need.
I do not expect them to make the trade.
We should be moving Ekholm instantly. Could get a kings ransom in return.
I would also look into moving saros. Keeping him here makes no sense. Trade saros. Improve our draft pick (hopefully, possibly?) and I can’t even imagine what a trade for saros would look like.
Our roster could look very different by Friday 3pm EST if the preds fully commit
Honestly I wouldn’t mind seeing armhole go, as a Preds fan it would suck but we are clearly in rebuild mode, but as a hockey fan oh man would Ekky help the Oil’s D-core a lot, I want Edmonton to have playoff success and watch McJesus raise Lord Stanley
When the Preds got McDonagh, one of the vet d-men was going to get moved eventually. 9, 14, and 27 combined make too much money.
A way to look at that trade was it was practically a one-year partial salary retention because Myers made too much to bury in the minors and Tampa took that obligation away. It was a good deal.
Now that the year is almost over and they don’t consider themselves contenders anymore, it is time to make a deal.
