And I say it doesn’t go too far enough

  2. rampas_inhumanas

No one wants to be part of the ASG, and I honestly have no idea why anyone would watch any of it.

  3. biggiesmalls421

Hey now I don’t think the all star game has been in Detroit anytime in the last 30 years lol. But he ain’t wrong all star game is a snooze fest

  4. PurpleThumbTack

How about actually make it a fun event for the players instead of a kiddy show

  5. Sohnee14

Yeah I don’t get how he can “go too far” when he’s just communicating the general consensus feeling of players preferring to attend in, um, more preferable locations?

  6. milespeeingyourpants

I miss the old days when the competitiveness in all star games meant something.

    Allegedly.

  7. not-aRussian-spy

Just get rid of it all together

  8. MomboDM

Great title post from a great karma farming account.

    Kindly, go eat shit.

  9. powerplay_22

why does it even have to be in an NHL city at this point? the prices are so jacked that i’ll probably never go to an all star game anyway, you might as well put it in some other country or destination the players want to go to. let them vote on it even, it’s not like the nhl really misses out on money by having it somewhere else

  10. VinceTr0n

Marchand must hate it here lmao, he’s always using us as the « no one wants to come here » city

I get it though, I love my city, but every time I come back from a winter vacation down south the transition sucks.. I would also much rather be in Miami / LA in February

  11. icecream42568

I mean I don’t like being stuck here either.

  12. lonestar77

Just do not give the winner of an All Star game home ice advantage in the Stanley Cup Finals please. That is not the answer. I get that it gives the game « meaning », but it let’s players who won’t be in the finals determine something that a team should get awarded for their regular season record & making it through the playoff grind. Just my 2 cents.

Maybe just name All Stars & then give the players a break instead of having an All Star Weekend. I’ll freely admit I don’t really watch it anymore, I used to like the Skill Competition part, but even that has gotten kind of old (I heard this year’s was odd too).

  13. Secure_Cake3746

Little caesars arena in detroit had a college hockey game sellout while the all star game festivities looked like a ghost town. Michigan shows up for hockey. Between the ohl and college hockey people always show up. But go ahead piss off the fans who actually watch and tell us we arent good enough. Go ahead and shoot hockey pucks around a golf course. Great product.lol.

  14. enditallalready2

The worst person you know makes a great point

  15. Mangia-cake44

Hes not wrong but I have to do all kinds of shit I dont want to at my job and I only make 65 k a year he makes 6 million so he can shut the fuck up anytime now.

  16. Babock93

    Nope
Also it’s so ducking stupid. The worst yet.
Players should be paid more money and given more money to try.

  17. swim846

Shit he’s not wrong, like I grew up in Michigan and mid February who would want to vacation there .. like if they have to work when others get a break it should be somewhere warm

  18. skyequinnwrites

He’s not wrong and everyone’s just mad because it’s Marchand

  19. colt6288

Gone too far? What kind of horseshit headline is that? No, he hasn’t gone far enough. The ASG is stupid and it’s been literally 10+ years since I’ve even THOUGHT about tuning into it.

Shit sucks, go be with your family.

  20. CaribouCarter

All-Stars probably have serious FOMO on the all-star break shenanigans the rest of the team gets into. If all my friends went ripppin around sunny vacation destinations while I had to work I think I’d be mad too.

  21. Sauronsindexfinger

They could cancel the all star game completely. Who cares? Maybe they should just do a convention type of break? Pick a warm place and let the fans meet players, check out vendors, participate in some interview sessions etc. Maybe allow some fans to go on the ice and literally play with their heroes? They don’t need to play an actual game. And if it’s over the course of a few days the players will also get some time In the Sun to relax.

  22. drblah1

How about spread out the bye weeks so they don’t coincide with the all star break. Stop games for like 4 days tops league wide instead of having like 8 days off for All Star weekend. That would give players a travel day to get there, the skills comp, game day, and a travel day to rejoin their team. Give teams another week break some other time during the season.

You’re basically punishing the leagues top players by not giving them a rest week the way it is now.

  23. Filmexec21

I hate Marchand and I actually agree with him here. The all-star break is meant to show the NHL’s top talent and to give players a break from the long season. Players want to go to towns that are warm to get away from the cold in the middle of winter. I don’t know if Hawaii has an ice rink but if the all-star game was there every year I think players would want to go rather than it being a chore.

  24. alex8787

In the same article he actually clarifies he loves Edmonton. He just doesn’t want to go there for a weekend in February which is very understandable.

Cherry picking this quote is just click baiting.

  25. Hundevann

Las Vegas should be the default location for the All Star weekend:

Accommodate a lot of guests ✅

Activities outside of the All-Star festivities ✅

    Not -30 in February ✅

I get that hosting it is (probably) a decent money maker, but they could somehow work out a revenue sharing deal.

  26. fantailedtomb

As an edmontonian, he’s completely right.

  27. Grizwald

I always hear that the all star game is “for the kids” but I’ve yet to meet a kid who cares about it. Just get rid of it.

  28. idgafpb

Cancel the All Star Game, it’s stupid. It’s politicized, corporate and boring. Put in a rivalry series in the middle of the season instead. Best of 3 games against a rival. Incentivize the games by giving the winner a extra point in the standings.

  29. Architeuthis_McCrew

I get what he’s saying but the league should continue to rotate the ASG to various cities.

  30. Sad-Wolverine6326

Bust your ass, have a career season. What’s your reward? No time off, constant press interviews, lame skills competition and lamer game. Shut down fir a few days and let everyone go golfing and get a couple days rest to be ready for the push and the playoffs.

  31. meltingspace

Have the game alternate between Hawaii and the Bahamas

  32. StockWillingness2748

If the league has to punish players for not going, they’re doing something wrong. Maybe ask the players what they would like to see at the ASG? They’ve likely all watched, and participated in them before. Many of them have kids, so have some sort of idea of how to entertain them using their abilities. Maybe the league should do a year where the players get to pick the events and design how it will go?

  33. They had the location correct this year in South Florida, but they had the events absolutely wrong

  34. USAFConroy

You know, this is supposed to be a showcase for the fans.. the entire reason they’re able to play a kids game for millions of dollars. The game should be rotated to all of the NHL cities so all the fans get a chance to see these stars of the game. The fact that guys like him are so far removed from that idea is absolutely disgusting to me. I’m sorry but the players can suck it up you know.. not to mention just straight up criticizing someone’s hometown which most of the fans that live on those places might never have a chance to leave or step outside of. He’s just a spoiled brat. That’s my take.

  35. not a problem for the NBA. maybe he should provide suggestions for actually making the players want to go.

  36. Double_Reward230

He’s got a good point! Can the game but keep the selection process! Nice to get recognized

  37. TathanOTS

I agree with Marchand. The frozen hellscape that is Boston should never host the all-star game.

  38. caseyjownz84

I would feel the same. But I would do it and stfu because it would be my job and I would be thankful to earn 1% of his salary for said job.

  39. baconegg2

Everyone just hates that he said it out loud…..
