  1. So, if it was icing, it was no goal. If we assume it was not icing, he covered it with his blocker, which should've been whistled as covered. If we assume it was not icing AND that he didn't cover it with his blocker, his pad was pushed in with the puck, which means the goal should be waved off. But, in typical NHL fashion, we have a good goal. And I am not a Devils fan.

  2. I'll give them the non icing call, but the goalie had it for almost 5 seconds with no whistle and almost everyone stopped playing and they just let that bullshit happen.
The refs in hockey have been slowly ruining hockey for 4 or 5 years… sad to see.

  3. This play reminds me of group of people eyeing the last crab leg at the buffet line with every one being too polite to take it. Ellers was like Aunt Karen who swoops in and shamelessly puts it on her plate because she has no class.

  4. The root cause is that refs did not yell off or wave off icing like they normally do hence the confusion.

  5. So I was watching the intermission interview with Lars Ehler and he said the linesman waived off the icing and he just followed the play. I am not sure why the ref didn't shut it down. The only thing I can come up with is that he was on the back side and couldn't see if it was covered but that is an incredibly weak theory. I will say though that these guys have been told from the first time they played to play to the whistle. Why didn't the goalie keep it covered? It doesn't matter what he thinks should happen. Pick the puck up if need be but don't uncover it without a whistle or you get scored on. "see example above"

  6. "Avalanche's Lars Eller Scores Bizarre Goal After NHL Referee Fails To Do Job And Blow The Play Dead."

Would be a more accurate title. What was the over/under on this game?

  7. You play to the echo of the whistle, boys. You don't like it? You can get new goalie who understands that.

  8. Can't decide what's more of a Dang-It
    Refs calling off the icing
    Refs not blowing it dead
Sens not playing till the whistle

  9. Weird goal, yes. But for anyone who didn't watch the game, yet has a strong opinion here, there were no less than 3 makeup calls that the refs gifted the Sens and did the Sens make a goal out of it? You bet they didn't.

  10. THE Refs are just getting ready for the playoffs , Stay Tuned … for more of WTF…………………. It should have been icing .. it was 'not' waved off..WOW

  11. I think there should've been a whistle, but I also think since there wasn't the goalie should've kept it covered

  12. This was all on who officiated the game. Probabmy would have been blown down faster by 80% of refs

  13. Bruins lost an overtime game when an icing call was waived off for reasons they refused to explain.

  14. Remember all those goals that were called back because refs had intent to blow the whistle even though it was way too early?? Wtf happened to that here?? Not even just this game for Ottawa but for the whole nhl and every team something needs to be done about this

  15. The play should've been blown dead the very second that Eller started hacking at the goalie's skate. I have no idea why he wasn't given a minor for goaltender interference. But no, in Bettman's Rules we award a goal going the wrong way. Surprise me.

  16. Two things here…
    1. Play to the whistle
    2. Where tf was the whistle

  17. -should have been an icing
    -should have been blown dead
-the puck was covered for 3 whole seconds
all of this just for the refs to later call an extremely early whistle in the dying seconds of the third. Add onto that phantom calls, divings, and in general poor game management. Absolutely abysmal officiating tonight.

  18. What is this title he did freeze the puck idiots these refs gotta get the boot, will go down as the worst officiated game of all time for me

  20. People forget – this is not you local hockey rink, this is a STADIUM. It is not ALWAYS clear that a whistle was blown/not blown.

STILL, goalie has to – MUST – assume that all refs SUCK ALL THE TIME. I did just one month into my first year of Mite hockey. Best lesson that I ever taught myself!!
