Burnaby Joe! As a Canucks fan I have nothing but respect for him. He was the heart and soul of the Avalanche.

My grandma always tells us the time about my uncle getting his first 4 minute penalty playing against Burnaby Joe. Not sure if he was a teenager or younger at the time.
As an older Wings fan, I have nothing but respect for the other # 19.
They used to do pre-season training in Colorado Springs the first few years here and I lived close enough to drive up. He was one of the best about signing autographs, would get every person in line, and do multiple things. I had his rookie card signed by him. He was surprised to see one here in Colorado.

I love the story from the peak of the Detroit-Colorado rivalry where Sean Avery, who was at the time well liked by his Detroit teammates for his enthusiasm, stood up on the bench and was starting to chirp Sakic. Brett Hull grabbed him and said, « You are not allowed to speak to Mr. Sakic. »
I’m not a fan of either team but you can’t help but respect and appreciate Sakic and Yzerman.

An all time great and yet I feel like he’s underrated. I am a flyers fan, but he was up there as one of my favorite non-Flyers players.

FORMER Avs legend??? The guy literally drafted or traded for almost every player (except EJ) on last years cup roster.
The moment the avs won the west, the “do we touch it it or not” moment, the players waited for sakic to come down and they asked him what to do.
#19 isn’t on the ice but he is leading the organization.
A true gentleman and an amazing player.
