Want to know why we had no power plays? We don’t have the skill to generate chances other than Palmieri…Bary looked better. I said before the D needs to get involved. Pellach and Pullock join the rush and look what happens…need to pinch more down low too like the Canes. Once again the Canes D burn us. Horvat has been neutralized. Bad things happen when Aho is on the ice. Please Romanov get back on our D. Their goalie has let in two bad ones, otherwise its not even this close… meanwhile the Canes place perfect shots and get that fluke. Puck luck is cruel. Refs owe Isles a 5 on 3 with a different crew. Canes have now beaten us in 6 consecutive playoff games going back to 2019. Our physical play is not enough to overcome their speed advantage. There is simply NO way we are going to beat them 4 out of the next 5. This series is most likely over by Sunday afternoon, definitely by Tuesday.

Yes, Sororkin needs to be spectacular for the NYI to come back in the series. He has shown the ability to get into the opponents head by stonewalling and demoralizing them by making impossible saves.
Once again the NHL officiating is horrendous and tonight it cost the isles and it was quite obvious. The isles did play better but when it’s 7 on 5 cuz the refs are obviously for the canes it gets frustrating. Personally I’d dress Ross in Josh’s pace Friday night and put him on a mission as a missle, let him loose to hit everyone and everything. I thought Islanders were the better team but Sorokin underperformed.
The Islanders played hard until it was 3-2. The Canes just turned it up and still the Isles just can't beat this team. We should have continued fighting, but we let up, and the Canes now are still in Isles head. It's going to be tough to come back.

I'm not going to blame the refs, although it was a terrible job on their part, because the isles are just not any good. If forechecking was the only part of the game they would be Champs! But it's more than that. It's just hard to watch. It seems they play the worst when they have a lead! House of cards all year long. Making the playoffs just keeps this lame coach here another year. And the fact that he probably works for peanuts.
Going into this series, I didn't think the Isles could win a best of 7. I just hoped they could make it a series. This may sound odd, but after watching this game I think the Isles can win this series. They clearly outplayed the Canes most of the night and at times had them scrambling around. 5 on 5 they were the better team, and their PK did a great job. Lane clearly made the better adjustments after game 1. In the end, it was a freak goal that I can't believe Sorokin let in, and a puck luck score off Sorokins head that made the difference. In game 1, it was a mystery slash on Pelech that led to a PP goal, and a slash on Nelsons semi-breakaway that wasn't called for the Canes to get the win. My point is the Isles could easily be winning this series 2-0.
I really didn't have a problem with the officiating last night. 5 of the penalties were no-brainers. The double minors on high sticks and Martins single roughing penalty after he mugged Staal. He could have easily gotten more. Cross check, interference, roughing….take your pick. I saw both teams making infractions that weren't called. In the end, it was just 1 'could have let that go' call against the Isles and none for the Canes.
In overtime, they let the minor high stick to Mayfield go, but a little early they let a clear trip by the Isles go as they entered the Canes zone. The Canes took advantage, the Isles didn't. Mayfield going full drama queen to draw the penalty is what really cost us. He took himself out of the play and that's why Fast was wide open. Also, Mayfield himself caused the high stick. He hits Martinooks stick up and into his own face. Mayfield should have gotten back into the play. It wasn't a major impact.
Sorokin hasn't been himself. I hope he gets back on track. I can see this team coming together and winning the next 2 at home. Lane should use the same lineup. Sitting Bolduc for the rest of the game was dumb on his part. Perhaps that high stick was dumb, but the guy doesn't take many penalties. Our 5 defenseman had to be tired in OT.
First off,let me say I didn't like the Martin hit on Staal…but Ledecky needs to go visit uncle Garry and complain to him just like Dolan does…and after that…go sign Alex Jefferies….the league is changing and we need more skill,not sandpaper
Good teams very often get lucky, great teams make their own luck. The Isles often tend to beat themselves. They often, and I would say last night, immediately abandon the play style that gets them a lead, or brings them back from a deficit, for a desperate defense that plays not to lose rather than to win. Time and time again we see then take thier foot off the gas when they get the lead only to give the lead away very quickly. As it is said "close is only good enough in horseshoes and hand grenades". We are only playing close enough. Lets hope our crowd influences the officiating to our advantage as well. I am not feeling good about our chances. I am vividly remembering getting swept by Carolina in 2019.

Daily watcher of the show Gil – you do a great job. That being said, I think today was a miss. JG without a doubt was the worst islander on the ice. Constantly put the puck in danger in front of the net and was bailed out by teammates. If it already wasn't so lopsided they would have got him on a slashing penalty on the kill that caused Teravainen to break his hand.
Usually, you are impartial to players and critical of those deserving it, but Aho does not deserve any additional shade from Isles fans ESPECIALLY after the way he's played. No need to mention own goal stats with a wild deflection that was lost for Sorokin. Freak play, not a bad play by him. Aho is a fringe guy and he has been playing way above expectations. Making great passes, playing fast, winning his one on ones, finishing checks, staying on assignment, and delivering the puck into the zone. Watching him all year you rarely saw that kind of consistency. The guys getting hammered on Twitter for being the worse Aho, let's give him credit where it's due.
If we want to be critical, be critical of Sorokin, JG, Clutter and Mayfield (sort of). Sorokin knows he missed that, the net is his responsibility at the end of the day. JG was horrendous with the puck. Clutter for the second game in a row has been out of position on a kill leading to a goal. Mayfield has played phenomenally so I'm nitpicking here – but he left his zone to complain about a penalty. Fast doesn't have an open look if he stays at home. It's the playoffs, play till the whistle.
Lastly, I think it's worth mentioning that mid-second period, Carolina was scared of us. The hits started adding up and you saw Necas, Aho, and others pulling up early on the puck to brace for checks. They started making poor passes. They started focusing on getting us back instead of playing their game. We are chipping away. A few calls/pucks bounce our way this series could easily be 1-1 if not 2-0 isles. All things even we don't lose to this team again. Isles in 6

For whatever reason, the Canes are a favorite, so if you want to win a few of these games, DO NOT breathe or look at any of the Canes, because that will bring about a PP for the candy Canes. By the way. Apparently the elite goal scorer Mike Rupp said it was the correct non call on Mayfield being high sticked. Well I’ve watched the video numerous times and it was slowed down, Mayfield’s stick did not cause the highstick. Rupp should sit next to those jerkoffs Bizballbag and Tocchet and keep their traps shut !
