I think Makar lost track of the puck, saw McCann going in that direction and decided to take the body. Makar doesn’t seem like a vindictive/slimy kind of player. It’s playoff hockey, gets physical. The 2 minute call for interference was right imo. Don’t think the sequence deserved the initial major.

Awkward hit, but don’t think it was intentionally dirty by Makar. McCann looks like he thought the play was dead, so wasn’t prepared for it, but the whistle was late, and if Makar lost track of the puck, reasonable for him to continue the play. Certainly, Makar doesn’t have a reputation for dirty play, at least. Do hope McCann is alright though.

I keep seeing comments that Makar lost sight of the puck. Easy to say, he’s never even really looking for it. He’s finishing a VERY, VERY late check. I truly don’t get that it was only 2. McCann skates all the way across the crease and into the far corner and THEN is checked. Doesn’t matter Makar’s intent, the man was fully defenceless.

Reminiscent of the Dale Hunter hit on Pierre Turgeon. Hunter hit him in the exact same fashion after Turgeon scored, it busted up his shoulder and Turgeon was never the same. I think Hunter got like a 20+ game suspension for it. That being said, I’d be shocked that Makar gets anything since a: he only got a two minute penalty, and b: this is Bettman’s NHL and makar is too big of a star to have to accept consequences like a suspension
