Anyone who thought ESPN respected hockey, in any way, is a clown (*cough* Bettman).

That entire corporation gets on its knees for basketball and football, that’s it.

In ESPNs eyes, hockey is just some random sport on par with darts and bowling.

And that baseball game will crush hockey in the ratings

  3. MittenRaised

Fire Bettmen. That’s the only way hockey becomes big in the states

Gary is knockin’ it outta the park!!! Outstanding job, little guy! Hey, how about signing the next tv contract with C-SPAN and a Commodore 64? Knob.

  5. ZeroOptionLightning

Cool cool. I guess it’s a good thing that contract is ready to expire real soon.

ESPN: « We don’t really give a shit about the NHL. »

Also ESPN: « We don’t want to give up televising NHL playoff games though. »

Im Glad. I really wanted to watch the Cornhole championships on ESPN2

  9. shadyjb23

Gotta love watching a blowout baseball game with 0 relevance on standings in the regular season instead of a playoff hockey game

  10. Aaand they switched it back mid game?! Why would that even make sense to do?

  11. Dry_Ad3216

Nice F-ing baseball game that no one is watching. They put themselves in a position to lose 2/3rds of the population. ESPN just SUCKS!!! Hey at least they’ll have labels…wtf

  12. BshanksTV

Baseball.. I can’t watch the “World Series” let alone a regular season game…

Not surprising as the NHL is not a big attraction for ESPN. They only signed the contract because the cost was shockingly low. The NHL was desperate to get their games some exposure and took less from ESPN to achieve that goal. ESPN has no financial incentive to move its MLB game.

A « fuck you » to ESPN and a very special fuck you to Gary Bettman. Give your nonexistent balls a tug ya titfucker! This league has no reason to have contacts that run viewership into the ground

I’m also a big MMA fan, they did the same thing to the quality of the UFC’s product. Don’t fret. Amazon Prime may be a suitable alternative if not others

Baseball game was 9-1 when the hockey game started. To make it worse, it was a garbage inter-league game in the middle of May. Bettman is a joke.

ESPN s hockey coverage sucks anyway. I wish they had not gotten the TV rights.

I don’t fault the NHL for signing a deal with ESPN. It’s been getting a lot more attention. I work at a casino and our sportsbook has had every game on and people have been betting on it.

Before it was on ESPN, if hockey was on, it was because I went out of my way to put it on. Nobody gave a fuck. But the nature of it being on ESPN has definitely attracted more eyes and attention.

ESPN should be ashamed of itself, but it is only concerned about money and nothing else, so it doesn’t care. It’s embarrassing.

Ultimately I wish people would stop blaming the NHL for these things. This sub loves blaming the NHL for ESPN and TNT’s coverage. The NHL must sign some kind of TV deal. It has no choice. ESPN is the first and only option if it’s available. NBC put them on NBCSN for a much smaller audience. No sense in going there again. CBS doesn’t give a single fuck. ABC is ESPN. That’s it. Maybe Netflix? But with ESPN they already get streaming. It was the best deal.

ESPN respects money. This isn’t exclusive to hockey. ESPN only talked about NYC, LA, Boston teams and the rare dynasties outside those cities like the Warriors. Otherwise, all other fanbases of all sports hate them for pretty much the same reasons.

I’m a Cavs fan. I’m not sure ESPN realizes they exist anymore after Lebron left. Same shit.

I’ll end this lengthy post with a hearty fuck ESPN.
