Calgary and Winnipeg are what Canadians picture Columbus and Arizona to be

The tax rate is super high in Canada. If I was a hockey player I would go to a USA team .

“Is Calgary a cold frozen tundra?”

  4. pforsbergfan9

No excuse for the kids to not get ice time now

  5. LozangeFire

It’s not Bettman that hates Canada. It’s professional hockey players.

I mean the terrible weather, high taxes, not much to do there during winter and mean coach (although he’s gone now) definitely does not help.

Canadian is a difficult language to sign your name in. It is a random mishmash of French, Spanish and English words. They want to come back but they can’t keep up with the ever-changing Canadian dialect.

  8. 4skinmikehunt

Other then Vancouver/Toronto & Quebec, Canada isn’t very desirable place to play

  9. tooleft4you

Depends if they like living among rednecks I guess.

Yo, what is it with Canadian teams? Debrincat, basically the entire rosters of the Flames and Jets want to leave within 12 months

  11. noskatesnodates

Which is kinda funny because being in my mid 30s and from Winnipeg everyone I knew wanted to get out to Calgary haha.

  12. beardedunicornman

“Becoming” lol. It IS an undesirable city for anybody not just hockey players.

I mean. If you have a well run organization with hopes to win, players will go anywhere.

From an outside view, the top players of Calgary wanted out; the team rebelled on their coach, their GM seemingly had a falling out with the organization and the team is stuck with a bunch of horrible contracts

I don’t care if it’s Calgary, Carolina or Chicago. No high end players will want to stay given all that

The arena is a joke, dressing room looks like Junior B.

Canada should impose a tax credit for nhl players to maintain competitiveness or the nhl should implement a tax adjusted salary cap to ensure fair play

  16. Anewhopefromcanada

Calgary gonna buy them out too

Feels weird as a Canucks fan defending Calgary, but have lived there and loved the city. It regularly in one of the most livable places in the world.

However, I will say there is an « anti development » attitude in Calgary which makes it hard to attract people. When you don’t have modern venues, less acts and events come to your city, and that is something people do indeed look at when they choose to locate to a new city.

The Alberta teams and Winnipeg have always been undesirable cities

« get me out of this Trumpian Province cluster fuck. »

  20. pmarangoni

Last time I checked it was in Alberta, so, yeah.

  21. toxicvegeta08

Calgary..is that ms tkachuks 🐈. Never heard of it other than what mathew came out of

  22. ThatHouseCDN780

    Bad arena, average Canadian city

  23. likesexonlycheaper

Ok cool but can we have Kadri back?

  24. nylanderfan

Shit like this pisses me off. A bunch of players getting together and deciding their team/market isn’t worthy of them. I hated it when everyone left Columbus too. Neither Calgary nor Columbus deserved it.

It also drives me nuts when star baseball/basketball players (or American hockey players) bolt from Canada at the first chance they get. You’d think Canada was fucking Antarctica or some strange place with a different language. Hell, Toronto is warmer than a bunch of American cities and yet Kawhi, Price etc had to pussy their way out.

Calgary is a beautiful and awesome city! It must have to do with the front office of the team.
