  1. And yet they still are whining about being held accountable for those bad hits. They knew he was hurt and went after him on purpose. Hockey still is it's own worse enemy, excusing dangerous hits contributed to players careers being cut short or diminished. Saw it being repeated this year with multiple hits on Cale Makar after he had two concussions. It's a sad state of affairs.

  2. Greatest player I ever seen. After those hits he transitioned into the best playmaker ever as a pass first player. Still made highlight reels like that one handed top shelf on the sabres! Makes everyone around him better kinda like the lebron effect. Wish he’d be more selfish

  3. I remember doing a speech in elementary school about Crosby's concussions and the dangers of having/getting a concussion. Ever since then I had become more of a Crosby fan than I was before and made me more aware of the possible dangers of getting hit in the head is

  4. He has been the best for me and will stay that way. He gave me goosebumps like no other athlete in the whole world ! I hope to see him play live before he retires ❤

  5. Thankfully Sid went on to win back to back cups in 16-17 so that kind of helped ease the pain. We just gotta appreciate every Crosby season from now on, I’m going to enjoy every game he plays and celebrate when he scores.

  6. Good ol Scotian boy. Tough as nails. Dudes the GOAT of my watching era.

  7. What happened is Crosby realized that his career could be over in the blink of an eye with one hit. Concussions can have that effect. He's playing a more professional game now. Early Crosby was like he was playing pond hockey and having a blast doing it. Those hits/concussions can and will change your perspective on the game.

  8. That shootout goal against Jose Theodore was the moment I'll always remember as the moment he stepped into being the icon that he was destined to be. Really such a shame that injuries derailed an absolutely unbelievable career. Dude still has 3 cups, 500+ goales and 1500+ points, but you still can't help but think what could have been.

  9. Thanks for this video, it’s a great reminder to appreciate the fabulous talent that we’ve seen. Enjoy Crosby, McDavid, Mackinnon, so much hockey talent we are blessed to see.

  10. As a American I didn't hear any news of Crosby being done with his career, granted I was younger and I knew he had a concussion but that was the extent of it

  11. So what. Lots of great and very good players get hurt in the NHL in the middle of their careers. Crosby got passed it, won 2 more Cups and still could win another

  12. What are you smoking???? Crosby has still dominated despite the injuries. He's accomplished more after that concussion hasn't he. 2 cups, 2 con smythes, another gold medal at the Olympics, a world championship gold medal, and other individual hardware I haven't even mentioned. He's probably the greatest captain in NHL history.

  13. That was a cheap shot by hedman…Crosby was totally exposed there. You would think that these players would have more respect for each other than to try to injure each other like that.

  14. but even with all the injuries and the pain… HE’S THE GREATEST OF OUR GENERATION!!!!
He made it big with all the ups and downs !!
    ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  15. i am hurt cuz someone who is as great as crosby got robbed from winning more hart trophies and just greatness and i hope matthews, mcdavid, and marner won't go through this

  16. Almost happened with mcdavid when manning hit him. If youve watched the documentary the fact he came back is astonishing. After all that Chirrelli traded for Manning too😂

  17. I say the same thing about the Suter hit from behind on Gretzky in the 1991 Canada Cup (World Cup). Gretzky was NEVER the same again and we wouldn't even be talking about OV catching him. From 79-80 to 90-91 – Gretzky's lowest goal total was 40. & got 51 or more 9 times. His lowest assist total was 86 in his rookie season but then he got at least 102 in the rest. Never missed the playoffs in a single season. After the hit… From 91-92 to 98-99 – Most goals he got was 38 and 31 – 25 or under in the rest. He never cracked 100 assists again – topping 90 only twice. His teams were only in the playoffs 4 times after the hit. It's like looking at 2 different players. Yes, I get that he was getting older, but the drop off from 91 to 92 is very significant.

  18. I was lucky enough to witness barley and I do mean barley, witness both eras of Sid. one of my first memories is sitting at home watching Crosby on TV, and Fleury making the save to win us the Cup in 09'. Truly hope that the Pens can pull off one more deep run for Sid Geno and Letang.

  19. Crosby is a canadian legend, he will always be a legend and he will always be considerd one of the best players to ever lace up th skates. He changed but he is still that guy

  20. Thanx Johnny for the great great hockey interest story. Keep up the great work.

  21. The silver lining is that he evolved into a more complete player post-concussions. His game would’ve evolved any way, but during the back-to-back cup runs he was just as dominant, though less flashy, more grindy

  22. Die hard Pens fan from the 80s.
I'm so proud of Crosby. He had his career in doubt then came back and DOMINATED the game and won Cups.
It was a shame that he had that concussion but it worked out well for us.
Crosby has also had No Protection or Bodyguards out there to help protect him. He's taken plenty of dirty shots in his career aswell.
Cheers and Bravo to number 87.

  23. I’m a flyers fan, after going through the Lindros concussions in the late 90’s, I remember feeling terrible for Sid. The time away from the game was vital to him returning to his no doubt first ballot hall of fame career! Glad he had the people around him to shut it down while he recovered. Even though I can’t stand the Pens, I’ll always be a big Crosby fan. The game is always better when the best players are playing the game.

  24. You are so correct here. Crosby was set to be on one of those short lists of greats who won multiple Art Ross, Hart and Conn Smythe trophies, but concussions stripped him to being "merely" a great player, admittedly with a penchant for big goals. We, his fans, and of course, he himself were robbed of peak Crosby. And with peak Ovechkin occurring at the same time, it could have been as exciting as Gretzky and Lemieux (another superstar impacted by injuries) playing at the same time

Not that this solves the problem, but that first hit on Crosby was a Matt Cooke type of hit. It should have earned around a 40 game suspension, but of course, in Bettman's world concussions are part of the fun. Bettman who likely couldn't skate from the center dot to the bench.

  25. I have so many memories of Crosby. I took my deep dive into hockey at 18 or 19 (I was a fan but became obsessed when I moved away from home and stopped playing) right around the time when his injury trouble started. I watched the Golden Goal (thanks Iggy). My uncle was a Nova Scotian rink rat and I remember him coming to visit the Christmas the year before Crosby's first WJCs and him talking about how he'd never seen a player like him before. I also remember Cindy Crysby phase where it was cool to dislike him. Or thinking he would be out of the NHL before he hit 30 with the nature of his injuries. To see how he adjusted his game to maintain a certain level of dominance, how he improved everyone around him… his pure awareness and knowledge of all 20,000sq ft of the rink… and how it has led him to still be a force who can play at 35 is wild. It'll be sad when he retires but I can't wait to see him as a coach of some sort. He really defined how a lot of people around my age grew up with hockey.

  26. As an Oilers fan I've got to say McDavid clearly learned the lessons of Crosby. Its tragic all the talent that was wasted with Crosby's injuries and it was really noticeable that after McDavid got his big injury he completely changed his play style to prevent future injuries like what ruined Crosby and Bobby Orr's (his agent at the time) careers.

  27. The golden goal… all my friends hated Sid with a burning passion, he was (and still is) my favourite player. In that moment in Feb 2010, he was everyone’s favourite player

  28. I understand there’s risk in playing professional sports. But teams, coaches, athletes, refuse to learn the lesson that’s so obvious to the rest of us: players need to be protected from themselves. When they take these knee wobbling hits, they need to be sat, not rushed back into the fray. Tua Tagovailoa is the most recent example that comes to mind. Although, it seems like the Panthers protected Tkachuk, so maybe the lesson is starting to sink in.

  29. If you compare them, McDavid is definitely the better pure goal scorer. Crosby was better rounded already at the same point in their career, but he also played with a better overall team – Crosby didn’t have the same pressure to be “the guy”, playing with bums.

The biggest difference in my mind is that McDavid will never win a cup in Edmonton, if the team’s management can’t figure out how to build a team around him. Defence, goaltending, grit…Edmonton lacks all those things where Pittsburgh did not.

McDavid will surpass most of the greats in time, I’m sure. Crosby was the complete package though, and he made his entire team better.

  30. Why doesn't everyone understand these were NOT concussions. This video is false. He had a nerve issue in his neck, they thought it was a concussion but they were wrong. I thought this was well known. He has ZERO history of concussions. He had a nerve injury in the back of his neck from the Steckel hit. Yes it was tragic because he missed games, but let's get the injury right.

  31. I’m getting old. I was in 7th grade crosby’s rookie season. He’s always been great but after he came back from concussion his attitude changed in a good way.
