Seems deep as well as having a lot of talent at the top, but not sure it can be the most competitive when there’s a clear favorite with Bedard.

  2. Nice_Wolverine_4641

    The season hasn’t started yet

Someone is going to get hurt, someone else will get sent down for most of the year, and another will probably be released to go to the World Junior Team, just because our expectations never seem to be met.

But it should be a great race, and a good group for fans to collect, and card companies to gouge us on…

Bedard, Hughes and Fantilli with Levi on the outside as my Calder picks.

  4. rcontinelli

Clear fave is Bedard, but damn this years rookie class is stacked.

  5. Zandergriff67

Stacked? Absolutely. Most competitive? I don’t think so.

  6. countchocula91

Love Carlson but no ducks player is winning this award lol

  7. georgecostanza37

You don’t know if half of these players will even play well enough to be in the race. Look at the finalists for the 1990-1994 calder voting.

  8. steveslikewhoa

Top 3 is going to be, in no order, Bedard, Fantilli, and Hughes.

Honestly I could see Hughes hitting 60+ points and still not winning it. Kid is going to be a fucking beast but Bedard is the clear favorite.

How the hell do we know, the season hasn’t started. Half these guys could put up bad numbers or get injured.

  10. Brodieboyy

I think ovi vs crosby was the most competitive ever, sure it was only between 2 guys but damn they both went off and it was an exciting year long race

  11. Sr_Raisin_bran

Connor Bedard and it’s not even close. Pull your head out of you ass, and smoke another blunt.

  12. Electric-Lettuce

Literally impossible to say this when the season hasn’t started and half these guys might not even be in the NHL

  13. Buffalorocks1

XD Bedard gonna blow up the league 66 points min and like 25 goals

  14. WallStreetRegards

I think Bedard has a 40-50 point season at best. Wouldn’t be surprised if Cooley came in hot and turned some heads though

  15. KrakenWize

Let’s see them actually play first.

  16. brokenwolf

Bedard should take it no problem but the runner ups could be interesting. I could see knies get a nomination just playing in the leafs top six.

  17. TexasYankee212

Way to early to nominate Calder candidates – not before the season. Some players might not even make to the main team and some might make the main team but the players may be disappointments. Remember Alexis Lafreniere, the hype, and what a disappointment he was – 21 points and -7 he was in his 1st year.

How about you ask again in December?

  19. Valuable-Baked

Fuck mahomes sign these boys up for a Head and Shoulders commercial spot

  20. msmith629

Yea, the race for second is pretty close

  21. digitang

Definitely. They’re currently all tied for 1st…and last

  22. bigtimechip

Bro tf the season has not even started touch grass

  23. hairycookies

    No.

Recency bias and the constant quest for « ALL TIME GREATEST MOMENTS » says no.

    It will be Bedard.

    Get off my lawn.

  24. pianoleafshabs

Absolutely stacked, but Bedard‘s a clear favourite.

    But Panarin happened

  25. Most of these kids will have their development be the most important for them.

Or their team is too good for them to get a fair shot.

And Bedard is going to play on an AHL team in the NHL.

With all those factors, I don’t think it’s too far fetched to expect someone like Cooley to have a great first year. Or maybe Knies plays with Matthews and Marner and wins the Calder by association.

  26. Neb-Nose

I have no idea? The season hasn’t begun yet.

  27. Complex-Tangerine628

Half of these players won’t even be in the race…

  28. pushingfaders

This is a crazy pool of talent, but I’m legitimately scared of Devon Levi. He absolutely rag dolled the Rangers last year and if he keeps playing the way we’ve seen could be a top 3 goalie in the league by seasons end. I wouldn’t be shocked if he got the Calder and some vezina votes (if not the vezina itself) along the way.

  29. ltroberts24

Most of these kids haven’t even played an NHL *preseason game* yet, and you’re calling it a competitive Calder race? Some of them won’t play all year in the NHL, and I wouldn’t be shocked if a rookie that isn’t even pictured wins… who here had Moritz Seider winning before the season started 2 years ago?

  30. TheBigTree91

Gonna say hard no for me right now, the season hasn’t started and the NHL is just different than any junior league. Ask me halfway into the season.

  31. anthonyrosa02

I hope Eklund surprises and the hockey world and drops 50 points of the rip. Doesn’t have to win the Calder but man would it be awesome to see him on on of these discussion posts.

  32. Most competitive of all time for the #2 spot
