Not thrilled about it vastly exceeding the cost of NHL.tv, but there’s finally a way to stream games legitimately without a cable bill.
Local NHL games for half the price of the entire NFL package? And doesn’t include all the games I’m guessing? What a joke.
This plan includes all local (aka non-national ESPN or TNT) games for the Capitals, Wizards, Mystics, and Go-Go. If you only care about the Caps you can subscribe monthly October-April for a total of $140.
You have to be located within the Caps’ local market area to watch games on it which is basically anywhere where you could get NBCSW/Monumental through a cable plan. If you’re outside the local area (say, living in New Jersey) then you can keep using ESPN+ which is both cheaper and includes tons of other games from around the NHL.
They have apps for iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV.

edit: from the PR
>These new DTC memberships include in-market access to live games for the NHL’s Washington Capitals, the NBA’s Washington Wizards, and the WNBA’s Washington Mystics, amongst other live games, original programs, and tangible membership perks. Current viewers who access the network’s channel through a Pay TV provider will continue to be able to watch Monumental Sports Network the same way as before, as well as via Monumental Sports Network’s newly launched digital platform with no additional fees.
This is unfortunately completely useless to those of us that are out of market. 😭
As someone who’s still using their parents cable login, am I screwed going into this season? I realize NBC Sports DC turned to Monumental Sports, but unsure if all the login stuff will transfer over or not
Ha… [I just asked about this last week](https://www.reddit.com/r/caps/comments/16xyrzm/cheapest_way_to_legally_watch_games_this_year/) and the most common feasible answer was ESPN+ and a VPN…. and with this being $20/month that still seems like the better and less expensive route. At least you get the Wizards with this plan.
I like the idea of this in theory, but I’m out of market and it can’t compete money wise with having most games on ESPN+ and my in-law’s cable login for TNT. I might try it for a month and see if the different game stream experience and docs are worth it but I’m ehhhh on it
So good news is it *seems* so far that it is included in the MSN subscription they’ve been giving STH. Which would be a fantastic increase in benefits for once.
That said, even if you have this, Hulu, ESPN+, Max, you’d still miss out on three games broadcast on ESPN
Oh shit. If the quality doesn’t suck I might finally ditch cable.
How is this better than ESPN+ with a VPN?
Add the Nats and I’m in
