How can this PP be so atrocious ? Guentzel, Crosby, Malkin, Rust, Karlsson, Smith, Letang, bottom 3 in the league at 9.9% with those guys ?
Montreal, the Wild and the Sharks are nearly twice as efficient and aren’t even middle of the pack.
The Penguins only scored 7 goals so far, but also allowed 4 in PP, meaning they’d have a 4.2% power-play if adjusted.
The Pens could really use a Landescog or Lee esk player for their power play. It reminds me of when the Wings lost Tomas Holmstrom, the Pens miss prime Hornqvist bad
Jay woodcroft will be coaching the penguins after christmas. Mark my words
As a penguins fan… it feels like the End of Days….. hockey season is over… bring on baseball!
I think there needs to be a change behind the bench in Pittsburgh. It's clear the team needs a new voice. It's not just the power play. It's everything.
This team has jumped the shark agewise, and now they can't hide it. Great overview, Shannon.
The worst part of their powerplay for me is that they have conceeded 4 goals when a man up. They need to shake things up.
According to Moneypuck, the Pens draw the fewest penalty minutes have incurred the 4th fewest penalty minutes. It is interesting that the PIM against correlates with PIM drawn. "Cleaner" teams also draw fewer penalties.
There is no way the Emperor Penguin has the nerve to fire Sully! Is there a trade up his sleeve?
I'm pretty sure the Pens are actually -3 for 34 on the powerplay. I think the Devils, Sabres, and Flyers all had shorthanded goals against us.
The oens just need a power play guy. If they can get that going, youll win probably 8-10 more of these close games and make a huge difference in the long run.
For me Karlsson was to wrong addition…absolut star player but not what the Team has needed…
Last year's 3rd period meltdowns is now starting in the 2nd period. Also, I was told Karlsson was supposed to help the power play… and he doesn't play defense either sooooo. Thanks Dubas 🙄
The Pens PP numbers compared to everything else feels like an EA simulation.
I really hope they get Kessel to at least try out on the PP. Would make my year to see him back.
It's gotten to the point where I don't even get excited or care that they're on the power play. I'm going to 2 games in January, so hopefully they have it together by then.
Pittsburgh is SOL on their powerplay.
The pens 5v5 are top 5 team, Sids line is one of the best in the league EK65 has been great even with an ass powerplay. The PK is top 5. A bad powerplay can lose you games and make it seem there are more problems then there really is. If the pens had a top 15 PP, they’re 2nd in the metro easily
As a Flyers fan, it's nice to see the Pens deflecting attention from how horrible our power play has been too
Penguins are stale and stubborn.
Can u make a video on the struggles of the canes this year(besides the goaltending)
With stats like these, Im surprised teams don't just intentionally take penalities against pittsburgh and washington. Or maybe they should just ice 4 players without any penalty necessary
Sullivan is a great coach but they’re just not a playoff team anymore they are too old, don’t have the depth. They can win games sure but they won’t be able to do it consistently enough anymore to be a playoff contender let alone cup contender. If they change the coach I can see it getting worse because the players love Sullivan but maybe a woodcroff would be good for them. I just don’t know if a coaching change will do anything. They went after the wrong guy in karlsson
EK was a mistake because of Dubas' obsession. They needed a defense first kind of guy and a a grinder, not a more expensive Letang.
I need a video on why Ovie is killing my fantasy pool as he cannot score.
Not sure what they should be doing next. The coach has changed their play style to help with the aging players. I think they need faster legs on D to help shut down the breakouts other teams are doing against them. It would seem that they are giving up goals on opportunities that their opponents are getting because they are too slow in the back end. That is where I would start.
Penguins fans are now experiencing how ice cold Reilly Smith can get. VGK made the right choice.
Just looking at your 10 most recent games listed on that board and not looking into any other stats, I can say it looks like this is a problem with the offense. They've only scored 4 goals in a game once in the past 10. The power play outage must be a big part of that.
Need a senior advisor to the power play coach!
This is kinda who they are. Jarry and Nedjelkovic aren't this good.
Should talk about the Caps next, such a mystery team and they’re going through it just as much as the pens. Powerplay is awful, ovechkin is struggling to do anything, no offense, etc. (at least Crosby and the big guys are producing)
This team is afraid to shoot, overpassing galore to go for the pretty goal and no one sits in front of the net, it’s infuriating
It is the Erik Karlsson curse. We Sharks posters warned you Pens fans. As a Pittsburgh native, I hope the Pens turn it around and make a run.
After watching a couple recent Pens games, they have absolutely zero offensive zone time unless Crosby is on the ice. Maybe an occasional rush off a turnover, but no depth whatsoever. An average PP could get them a few more points in the standings, but they're essentially a one-line team and easily defendable for any contender.
The Pens need to strike while their aging players are still healthy and not tired. The 30plus players will get tired, which means they’ll be injured. It happens. They are missing their opportunities.
The penguins powerplay is painful to watch. It's amazing they have 3 players who are a safe bet to be hall-of-famers on it (Crosby, Malkin, Karlsson) and it still stinks.
Sullivan needs to go. I think he's a good coach, probably… but he's been in Pittsburgh far beyond his expiration date. Sure, he might be telling them to do things differently than they're doing. I sure hope routinely giving up shorthanded 2-on-1's isn't part of Sullivan's system. But he clearly doesn't have any solutions.
Great video Shannon. As a pens fan I'll say they've been playing some of the most boring hockey ever. Surprised there wasn't more mentioned about the injuries bc before the injuries they were a lot better than this recent stretch of games. Half the lineup right now is AHL guys so ofc they can't expect to get 2 points every game. There's no way they rebuild, I think pretty much every prospect and depth guy they have besides Yager and Blomqvist will be available for trades to upgrade the bottom 6 and defense in any way possible. Also have no clue in the world how Todd Rierden still has a job.
Letang and Malkin played bad and lazy in both flyers games, i felt they didnt play to the end😄
I think they should at least fire Reirden. Frankly I’m surprised they haven’t already done that, it’s gotten to the point where I audibly go “oh no!” every time they go on the power play 🥲
Last 2 times the Penguins have changed head coach mid season they have won the Stanley Cup (see 2009 and 2016). I doubt firing Sullivan would change anything but things just feel stale.
If this team had an average NHL powerplay they could have 8 wins in their last 10 games, probably putting them in contention for winning the division. They've changed personnel, they've changed schemes, none of it has worked. Karlsson was brought in to fix the PP, and it hasn't worked!
EDIT: Games they could have won or got a point out of (on the board)
Rangers: 0-5
Sabres: SHG allowed
Nashville: Powerplay in the 3rd
Philly: SHG allowed, PP in OT
Philly again: 0-3, PP <5 mins left. One PP they gave up two breakaways and a 2-1 and were outshot 4-0.
If their powerplay was just a fraction of what it’s been their record is tons better. It’s BEYOND frustrating. They need to shoot the puck!
Kucherov has 22 power play points this season, every player on the Pens combined has 21…
As a blues fan I’m happy Pittsburgh’s here to keep our power play out of rock bottom 👌🏻
Everything is hurting the penguins at this point. All that offensive firepower and can't seem to find the back of the net. Worst power play in the league. Bad decisions with the puck at the blue line. Looks like they do not have any will to win left.
I don’t question it, or want to jinx their ongoing troubles. As a Ranger fan I’m just enjoying the heck out of their downfall. 😁😆😂
