I think because of the internet and how toxic it can be, ownership and management are just being cautious. They're testing the waters to see what kind of a reception Roberto gets and if it's really positive, then they'll probably do Luongo and McLean at the same time in the future. In all seriousness, Kirk McLean was a bigger deal in Vancouver than Luongo ever was. Sure, social media wasn't a thing in the early 90s so you don't get that instant toxicity, but I think it's generally accepted that without Captain Kirk, they don't go on that big '94 Run. For some reason, because there were a number of stars and 2 hall of famers, maybe 3 eventually with Luongo, people blame Roberto for the 2011 meltdown, when it was the whole team. They played like garbage in the final 2 games as a team. It wasn't as if McLean was great in every game in that run, or even in the Finals. But it's been 30 years since the 1994 run, so memories get distorted in that time. Both deserve their numbers retired, as well as the Sedins.
