I totally agree with you about Mitch Marner and the toxic weirdo fanbase haters who a few years ago were saying the same things about William Nylander. I’ve been occasionally tough on Mitch in my comments but that’s when I think he’s been lazy or being snake bitten because he’s tried the same old thing too much and yet I’ve never ever dissed him as a player. He bleeds blue and white, he’s such a Leaf fan let alone a Leaf player and we’re very lucky to have him and his commitment to the team and to Toronto. He grew up here, it was his lifelong dream to play for the Leafs, and now he’s living it. And as you say he’s a damn fine hockey player and he deserves our respect, and I think, our love.
How great it would be to see him hoist the cup with his Toronto jersey on.
Thank You for sticking up for Marner. People can be absolute dicks on here about him and I truly believe he is one of the best players on the team. When he is winning the team is winning.

I dunno why people dislike Marner, the dude is a really good player, the amount of points he puts up + the fact that he actually BACKCHECKS and does PK rather well are just the cherry.
I've loved Marner since he started. I really didn't know there was hate for him. I know he's had his rough slumps, he's passed several franchise records, I think that needs more air time than it's gotten. Is there anybody out there, that can provide and accurate reason for me to dislike him?

The second you traded mitch marner you would be looking for a playmaker who can put up 90pts every team would love to have him the only reason he gets hate is because hes small and can't hit or fight. Mitch marner is a maple leaf for life so get over it
Tonight's win was great, but we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves by thinking the cup is in sight. It was a win against a team that's doing very poorly this year. Teams higher in the standings or near the top will be a more accurate understanding of what the Leafs are capable of

Kudos to Steve for finally stepping up and calling out the very weird and toxic hate for Marner, especially when so much of it happens on his Twitter and YouTube. Mitch is a hometown kid, who plays 110% every single night, cares more than anyone, is already a Top 10 Leaf of all-time, and one of the absolute best players in the league — if you don't like him, you're either not a Leafs fan or you're a real weird ass.
I think the hate on Mitch is more on the contract he has and the performance in the playoffs.
I'm sure people like Marner but he is a floorball player that skates like a champion, not a hockey player who stickhandles like a floorball player..
On a positive note, as a sharks fan, I would really love to get Celi in the draft since hes a San Jose native! (or at lease he played with the org for a while)
I have watched Marner since junior, when he played for the Knights. People always doubt him, and the. He does things that make you go "how was that possible??" He thrives on proving people wrong.
