Keefe can only work with the tools he is given.He doesn't have the tools he needs, and that's on management.
Sure they pay the top guys a lot but I wouldn’t call Domi, Bertuzzi, Kampf, McCabe, Jarnkrok, Liljegren and even Knies, Holmberg and Jones an incapable supporting cast. Brodie and Gio especially are slowing down but sht happens. I think it’s a system issue but not all on Keefe. He needs to go but I don’t want them to rush just cause Berube is on the market.
Tree never acquired Toffoli thru trade. He was a UFA with Vancouver, and because salary cap didn't go up we got out bid by 2 million per year, he also got UFA Markstrom , where we offered the same money, but Tree offered 2 more years ( how is that looking ).

this is what happened to babcock. the team stopped playing for him. the coach is not the issue.
Problem is this goes much higher than Keefe. He called guys out publicly last year. The very next day he was out in front of the media walking it all back. Someone told him he couldn't do that. It wasn't Dubas. Dubas wanted to trade one of the core four. When he couldn't he left. Shanahan is the biggest problem the Leafs have.
I disagree with the assessment that Keefe knows the Core Four in the sense that MacKenzie is referring to it. My feeling is he is expecting them to take a step forward and pick up some of the defensive responsibilities that were doled out to the Kerfoots and Engvalls of the world last season. So while he does know them, he is looking for more development from them. I think they have done that. Yes if you watch enough film, you can find mistakes for anyone. But ideally, if you watch enough film, you will also see how seldom those mistakes happen.
Folks, you need to stop looking at draft pedigree and making snap judgements on what they do and do not have in terms of value in the pipeline because that is not how NHL scouting departments do it.

Keefe is only part of the issue, the coach can only play who he has. He's tried moving guys around and sitting some but that isn't working, its like shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic. I believe its the makeup of the team that's the larger issue and that can't be addressed in a significant manner until the offseason. Leafs spent all their assets in years past, trades need to be made in the summer. Those saying Treliving isn't doing anything don't realize no team is making deals now..just look around the league, the cap has killed trades

I just can't agree with Julian … If MM says the right thing, "you're damn right we're mad AND frustrated" people may talk but it won't be about whether these guys are living on fantasy island or are satisifed by just "showing up". The worst thing to talk about is whether these guys have any sense of accountability. Some recognition that there is a problem needs to come from more than Keefe.
I’d like to add it’s not just 4 games the Leafs are 6-8-2 since Dec 14th ,,, that’s not a bad stretch that’s a really bad month ,,, and Florida had and have a much better D core than Toronto,,, the 2 teams don’t compare to each other
Fire Keefe. Bring in Queneville. Let Marner walk. Sign JT at lower AAV. Find a top 6 D pairing and a Goaltender. This year is a write off. This team will not play defence to get anywhere
Julian Mckenzie's point of 'overreacting' almost makes sense until you consider this team is a total playback from previous seasons, just in a worse state. Armed with the knowledge that in previous seasons they have done exceptionally well in the regular season only to fall apart in the playoffs is the actual issue at hand. They may as well give up on the playoff run because they aren't anymore likely to make it out of the first round using the core of the team. The only saving grace for any playoff hopes is the new pieces that have been added, I.E the people you're ready to throw away in Bertuzzi and Domi. Still leaves a gigantic defensive hole and doesnt fix the defensive liabilities, or the house league level giveaways. Those giveaways marner has several of over the past few games, but yet they are 'playing great' by his description.
