My gut is that with the Yotes ostensibly three-quarters of the way through the process of buying land in NE Phoenix, the NHL won’t/can’t come out this weekend and pull the plug.
They pretty much have to see this process through — and then make the call if it fails or stalls.
If it succeeds, great, you’ve got what everyone wanted.
I think an angle worth considering is ownership’s motivation to avoid embarrassment. Being forced into selling the Yotes would probably blackball the Meruelos from being able to own a top-tier pro franchise again. If they’re at all serious — jury’s out — they’ll make it happen.
