Going to lose steam if we miss the playoffs. Seems like mgmt and coaching staff are comfortable with burning a year. I suppose we’ll see during the trade deadline. I just feel like, goalie aside, the line combinations and TOI have been handled improperly. If we were 15 points out of a playoff position, I might agree. However that’s not the case.

Can definitely tell based on the state of this subreddit. Can really separate out those who were here during the dark times from new folks.

I had two kids in the last 5 years and they both are devils fans so you’re welcome

Started watching in 2021 with the home opener OT winner from Jack…. And now we are still buzzing over the stadium series. Wish I started watching sooner.

My very first game as a fan was in 2015 against the Flyers since my dad always supported them but i used to think hockey was cringe. Went to that game and was like yooooo this sport actually kinda rocks and I didn’t pick a great time to join the fan base lol especially since that year they lost maybe 9 of their last 10 or something like that hahaha

My household just started our fandom this season as well. Started 12/23/23 v Redwings – they won the first game we ever went to and my son’s loyalty to the Devils was quickly solidified. Seeing them win against VGK in OT and experiencing the W at the stadium series has completely converted the entire household. Sorry we weren’t there for the dark years but we’re here to stay (for better or worse).

Not mentioned in the article, but I think those cup wins are finally coming to fruition. I’m sure most of the early-thirties aged fans (aka me), we watched the team win as kids, stayed devout fans, then came of age, got big boy jobs and started taking our friends, dates, kids to the games ourselves. Or we used to like them when we were children, fell off once life got more complex, then hopped back in last year when they got good again.
It’s a great opportunity! Hope this team makes the most of it.

*quick, think of an old inside joke we used to have*
I’ve been saying for years that Devils aren’t a Mickey Mouse organization, and I can prove it. For starters, Mickey Mouse has legions of loyal fans, is internationally recognizable, and is capable of generating a profit. Besides, you can leave Mickey’s home in Disney World and explore restaurants and stores; explore Newark anywhere except directly from the arena to the train station, best case scenario is that your corpse doesn’t get pissed on after you’re robbed and killed.
In closing, I was considering asking you to bow your heads in memoriam of when we were a good team, but I fear that Scott Stevens would reflexively blindside you all and I don’t need that on my conscience.

I can’t read the article I’m at work with little service, not sure this will post, but what are they using for this metric? Ticket sales, discussions online, number of ppl in the subreddit?

as a kid on long island I was surrounded on all sides by rags and isles, the kid that lived next door showed me the light and that I didn’t have to pick either NY team. been great friends for 20 years now. I kind of fell off and then rediscovered my enjoyment of hockey right after covid and been picking up jerseys/hitting games ever since. still holding my ground here on LI as a devils fan
