These two guys have chatted it up a few times since then, including on McCarty’s podcast last year. They have nothing but respect and camaraderie for each other. They’ve also explained every aspect of Avs-Wings quite well.
Honestly, it’s a poor look on hockey.

This is as cathartic as hockey can get. This fight has everything. Claude Lemieux getting totally embarrassed (fuck Claude Lemieux, the little rat), it’s got Shanny leaping through the air, it’s got a full-tilt goalie fight. That was a fantastic rivalry.
Claude Lemieux is the largest piece of shit to ever play in the NHL and the worst sportsman that professional sports has ever seen.
Doing this then going on to make the game winning score is such a powerful display

People always point to this to diss Lemieux but never seem to remember Lemieux dropped with Maccarty the next season the first time they played and gave Mccarty all the smoke he wanted and with both hands. Lemieux wasn’t a wimp, he could throw, he just excelled at agitating and being clutch when needed. Don’t get me wrong tho turtling is whack, but this was just his game.

This was, IMO, the single greatest hockey game of all time. Highlight reel goals, hits, plenty of fights (some including superstars and goalies), capped offf with an overtime finish. Incredible hockey game! Highly recommend watching it!

It is probably already mentioned that this was Detroit’s response to a viciously dangerous hit by Lemieux on Draper.
As an Avs fan who grew up watching hockey in this era of bad blood, fuck the Red Wings.
