Matthews in his last 7: 10G 4A, kinda funny how completely opposite they are
He’s on pace for 103 assists, which would be more than anyone except 10 seasons of Gretzky and 1 season of Lemieux. Orr had 102 in his best year (and Gretzky’s 11th highest total was 102).
Pretty standard stuff from McDavid other than a few less assists and a few more goals.

Man I think he’s just bored of the regular season. Last year Drai told him to score 60 and he shot a lot more. This year I think he just decided to get a ton of assists. He’s shooting a lot less.

I do wish McDavid would shoot the puck more. Imagine how many more points he would have. Not to say he shouldn’t pass often, or that his teammates are bad, McDavid is just so good, that maybe sometimes he should shoot more.

Gretkzy was inhuman. Mario did it once. Orr once. Bunch of guys (oates, roberts, etc) came close in the high 90’s but then there’s Gretkzy

Anyways to the people who said McDavid wouldn’t win the art ross are crazy. He’s literally the best player in the world and he’s about to jump Kuch very soon. Everything is almost normal again haha he literally only wasn’t number one because he’s clearly playing injured earlier this year

Assists matter less than goals. It’s harder to put the puck in the net than it is to help someone else do it. He’s 43rd in goals. 30 behind Matthews. Likely gonna finish with half his total from last year. Pretty clearly not the best player in the league this year.

McDavid is a once in a generation type of talent. Back in the 80’s and 90’s we had two such generational talents that overlapped in Gretzky and Lemieux. To have 11 total (and straight) 100 assist seasons for Gretzky is very insane! While Lemieux just had one 100 assist season, over an 8-year stretch he had 6 season where he played 59 or more games that he as on pace for 100 assist season if not for injuries / illness (the other 2 seasons in that 8-year run he wasn’t limited to just 26 and 22 games). I would have loved to see what Mario could have done in his career if not for injury and illness.
