Because we totally need to give up picks for more aging veterans

Not completely opposed to buying but I really don’t like the idea of us bringing anyone above the age of 26

It’s weird but not doing anything might be the right answer for once.

Joseph Smith was called a prophet, dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb

Anyone besides me getting serious David Poile 2.0 vibes?

Trotz said he could find bottom 6’ers all day long and he’s about to prove that right.

My prediction is that Trotz attempts 3 things at this deadline:

    1. Move Tyson Barrie

    2. Utilize cap space to retain on a rental for another team for picks

    3. Add a middle 6 winger for a mid round pick if available

The only trade that makes sense is getting a king’s ransom for Saros, not that I want it to happen. Otherwise roll with what you have and build for the future.

  7. Best case is a wildcard spot. Only 6 points out of being the bubble team. So of course mortgage the future for a chance to upset the top seed.

Why would we ever grab those two? Guentzal maybe, but not Tarasenko.

I’m good with giving up one of the 2nds for a Mantha type but giving up anything more would be dumb… and slipping right back into old habits

all because of one lil win streak 🥴like we still have Kieffer sherwood dudes playing big roles they not gonna win a cup let’s be real

I’d be happy with an upgrade on Jankowski to center Novak and Evangelista. Move out Barrie for anything. That’s about all that needs to be done

I won’t ever forgive Guentzel for what he did to us in 2017.

I feel like it’s more important to trade barrie and maybe one or two others for picks for the next couple years. Buying anyone less than a Bedard or McDavid seems like putting too much age or not enough depth on board for this season. Either we make it or don’t this season and if we do that’s phenomenal if not a bit of a miracle. If we don’t we have to be looking to get the best we can for the next few years to help josi and fil make that final push.

Saros does need to be in the convo but tbh not until after this season. Then decide, we either get a great tandem with asky and saros or Kevin and asky. Teams WILL buy saros but it has to be the right trade and only if we plan on asky taking lead out the gate. Goalies last longer than skaters, he’s not likely sundowner yet.

My childhood is permanently scarred by memories of trading for Peter Forsberg.

Our offensive production has been much better lately so I’m not as concerned about finding a goal scorer as much right now. Personally I’d like to see us get one more defender that’s worth a damn cause if anyone gets injured all we have is Barrie to rely on. But I don’t even know who would be on the market

I think him saying this right now isn’t so much that he’s dying to buy a top 6 or top pair guy, but is more so him putting the word out that « hey, if you’ve got a top guy or established top prospect you’d consider moving give me a call ». He has some good value pieces he could make a play with, he’s not looking to sell, he’s not hard pressed to find one more clutch guy before this year’s playoffs. So yeah why not signal you’re a buyer and kick the tires a bit on what’s out there. We’re not looking to just sell and get something we *hope* will pan out in a couple years. We’re looking to get the right deal that we *know* will be a key piece in a couple years when the rebuild/tooling is coming together. It’s just saying he’s willing to send a big piece your way but you’re gonna have to do better than just picks. I like it.

Think similar to the Erat/Forsberg trade or the Fisher/2011 1st rnd & 2012 conditional. Both were technically « buying » but not with the expectation of instant results and both were absolutely crucial in the early foundation phase of creating that contender roster we enjoyed.
