Thank god Michael Ryder 2.0 is gone. Toffoli was so slow and soft. Now Timo can eat on PP1. You wanted them to address the goalie situation and he did lol. Fitz saved the day with the last trade. Freed up a lot of money to address defense or to get your #1 goalie in the summer. Fitz did what he could do. It was a buyers market this year.
What makes you think that they would be willing to spend money in the off season for a #1 goalie? If that's the case why did you piss away an entire season without acquiring that guy, if in fact you have that long term plan?

im gonna have to agree and disagree with you on some of the takes you had in this one, no the toffoli trade wasnt the best, but essentially he had to go with where the devils are at in the standings and being so far apart from the devils as far as term for an extension, and no the return wasnt the greatest and no its not a win but its not a loss either, we essentially traded a 2018 5th round pick (sharangovich) for a 2025 2nd round pick. and the one glaring thing everyone is missing is that fitzy sent him to a team that cant afford to resign him, and given the fact that he has said that he continues to want toffoli to sign with the devils, id put money on it that that was done on purpose and is the reason why we didnt get the return everyone was expecting, and id also bet that the offer is at least made to toffoli in the offseason. yes its a shot in the dark but when you really take a step back and look at it the devils didnt really lose anything in that deal, and if his gamble pays off we will have gained those picks for free. its something we are just going to have to wait and see about.
as far as the goalies, i can totally agree there is no way fitzy can not make a move for markstrom or saros or ullmark, basically a starting goalie. allen is not a starter. we did need to dump viteks contract if we want to have the cap space to absorb said goalies contract and potentially resign toffoli, and we now have a handful of extra draft picks to use in a goalie deal as well as sweeteners. it is up to him to deliver on his words but as far as what he did today at the deadline, he did exactly what he said he was going to do, he said he was going to keep the #1 goalie hunt going in the offseason, while bringing in a veteran goalie for the rest of this season. and that he was looking for multiple picks for toffoli which he did get, i think we just wait to see what happens in the offseason as far as wether or not we need to be rioting but if allen is the starter next season i will be right there with you in newark! i love this team too much for it to be let down again like it was let down this season.
i hope fitzy learns from his mistakes. he has admitted that he messed up, and thats step 1 and all things considered he set himself and the devils up decently for step 2. the rest is up to him. but if i was ownership id be watching him very very closely this offseason. like a fly on the wall that also has the button for the ejector seat on fitzy's office chair.

I will admit I'm excited for the goalie shake up just because it's something rather than nothing. Seeing Toffoli go is really heartbreaking as I loved him on and off the ice. Feel like he was really squandered because he was playing with a team without the proper goalie and defense to combo with his own skill.
As long as Fitz keeps true to his word for the offseason I'm content at this point and seeing what Kahk can bring to the table during his possibly very short time with the team is fascinating and fun at the very least. Plus the stress of having Vitek between the poles is gone, thank GOODNESS.
There really need to be "Fire Fitz" chants at the rock tomorrow….really crappy deals. Only thing I agree with is dumping off Vitek…maybe with that freed up cap space, we will have enough to get a competent goaltender. I agree with you though…if Allen is the number 1 next season, we should riot…would the owners hear us then!?

Disappointing trade deadline day. Devils management cashed in the season as far back as last December. I’m giving this Beer league management 2-3 more seasons till star players are asking for an out. Going to be sad if this happens since the Devils got lucky as f with the lottery a few years back.
There were quite a few top NHL players that wanted to come to NJ after they witnessed last seasons progress. That had of taken a 180 this season and it’s going to set the Devils back at least another season for “final pieces” to want to sign here. Unless they don’t have a choice. To me, the season was lost last offseason. We all know why.

I believe you are right. I also fear that as we get into the spring and summer that Fitzgerald will claim "we tested the market for a 1A goalie, but there was nothing available or we could not work out a deal, etc." LGD.

This is my take on the goalie situation. There was no reason to go get a goalie in the offseason when Vitek and Schmid and the team went into the playoffs. During a season all teams aren't trying to trade their goalies especially their good ones. Usually if there is a trade in the middle of a season it's usually a 1 to 1 goalie where those 2 teams aren't doing well and need new looks which doesn't translate to a fix all the time and could have made it worse. So your best option will be trade deadline or next off season. I'm glad he did something because now he has pieces in place. We don't know what's the plan going forward but I can see Fitzy loading up on picks to make an offseason move for a goalie and a defenseman.
It's was depressing to watch these trades happen. Maybe it's not all doom and gloom with Allen. Watched some of the games and he's capable to do more than any of our current goalies. But now question is Rogalski not going to ruin him? It certainly looked like either he's a terrible goalie coach or goalies are not following his coaching, it could be 2 way street here. Let's see how Allen does. Can you imagine if we got someone like Stolarz? That would definitely be a celebration but white things look bad on paper for Allen time will tell.

These Fitz moves need to be judged in the off-season. Anything less than Saros or Gibson is a failure. Markstrom's game is too inconsistent for my liking and his age. Fitz has back himself into a corner and the whole league knows how desperate the NJDs are for a goalie. Expect to pay through the nose….
Kaapo is a way better option to be the backup next year … when he hasn’t been on the worst team in the league his numbers were fringe starter/ hi level backup and he’s still young … Allen is past his sell by date

I live in Boston and we don't want Ullmark. Great for the regular season but he craps himself in the playoffs.
If the team starts to feel comfortable and confident, we could make a strong run at the playoffs. If there aren't those demoralizing goals we were giving up every game. Things could start to happen because we're not playing from behind at the first puck drop.

I am thinking that I am concerned about Markstrom being too old at this point. I say Saros or Ullmark or Jeremy Swayman. The goalie and defense situation is obviously really bad.
