For those wondering, I could only find TWO instances where this rule has actually been used to remove the loser point. For more details you can check out the video I alluded to from this last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y512dbT_YLY
(it was feb, not summer lol)
Perfect situation for this. If it failed, you would still not fault the coach. Let's see if it lights a fire under the Wild. Faith from your coach does inspire players.
I cant believe so many people in general didn't really know the rule.
It's basically why you don't see teams do it for an offensive face-off with 5 to 10 seconds left in OT.
If teams got the loser point, teams would easily take the risk.
I was there an also realize that I had never seen that happen in a game before. The building went nuts when they realized they had pulled Fleury. And like you, I had no idea that the “you forfeit the point if they score against you. “rule even existed. Balls of steel move.
The NHL does have to fix the overtime though. It has just become a boring game of keep away until someone makes a mistake.
I dont see what's the big risk. How often do you score on your own net?
In NCAA women's hockey, Ohio State tried something similar at the end of the 3rd period a couple years ago, thinking they needed the regulation win. It backfired.
The NHL makes rules just for the sake of making rules
4 skaters is 4 skaters
I was watching this game and I was stunned when Minnesota pulled Fleury in OT
Wow. Nordy will be pleased!
What would make the rule even crazier is if the opposing team doesn’t get their one point.
This was the first time in NHL…… this has been done elsewhere already!
Wild are great at being mid, can't wait for us to get a terrible draft pick, not make the playoffs and still be mid
I think it's great when rare thing like these happens! Makes the game more exciting. More teams should do these kind of tactics
You guys should watch KHL. They pull goalie in ot constantly
I was at that game. Everyone in the crowd was super confused. Fleury was at the top of the circles like twice before and I was wondering what he was doing. I didn’t even think pulling him was a possibility because like who does that lol. But in the end it worked out and it was a cool moment to see live. ❤
I remember when Federov pulled the goalie in OT for a KHL game, and they won, which made me win my KHL parlay. Good times
It would be even more interesting if scoring with the empty net made it so the other team doesn't get the free point for losing in overtime.
12 game point streak and still this team finds ways to make me lose my sanity.
I was at that game and I knew about the rule! I can't believe I got to see that live
Such a wild game, no pun intended
TIL a new rule. Had no clue about the forfeiting of the point.
Huge risk was justified when you can put on ice your top 4 players (Kaprizov, Zuccarello, Eriksson Ek, Boldy) with little time remaining and it has been paid off handsomely
If anyone played me in overtime in CHEL, you may know all too well.
😎
Ive watched one NHL game live in my life and it was Vegas vs Nashville on new years eve and Vegas pulled their goalie and it ended up working out and they got the two points so I guess teams just like pulling their goalie against Nashville in OT.
The Bruins did this earlier this season
Nothing to lose? literally a point is what they would lose
Should I say it was a "Boldy move"
They should take away the oppositions point if they score
Nothing to lose? Well I mean they could lose 1 point, and since Vegas has 3 points less than Nashville and 3 regulation wins less than Nashville, that point could have been crucial to catching up or beating Vegas. Vegas' trend has been terrible, 3-6-1 in L10, Nashville 9-0-1 before that OTL. Extremely risky move. The LA Kings have 75 points as well, so even in the event Vegas gets better, that point is likely to matter against them as well. Why it was worth it though, is because there were 3 teams with 67 points, same as minnesota, Blues with 1 game in hand, Calgary and Seattle TWO games in hand at the time. Because of that tight race, being the best of the worst of the 4 teams in the 67 point class is most important
I’m a Ducks fan I was watching this game on espn + and was in shock like that’s gutsy I tip my hat to the Wild head coach
KHL coaches doing this last three seasons, nothing new for game of hockey, guys
I'm good not being subscribed. Thanks. Have a downvote and a do not recommend instead.
Wild fan here. Was shitting bricks when he pulled the flower. Happy with the outcome tho lmao.
You're very knowledgeable. Always a pleasure to watch these short and informative videos of yours.
As a preds fan this hurts to watch almost as much as the bounce off the glass goal
This happens a lot in the KHL
Not sure why there has to be the punishment of not getting the single point. It’s a high risk, high reward play already.
Does flower get credit for the win since he left the game when it was tied? 🤔
Not sure why you should lose the point! This would be great and happen often except the risk of losing the point!
I'd like to see the Leafs try this, they have nothing to lose, they are locked in 3rd place in the Atlantic Division.
Nice.
A few years ago, the Bruins almost had a situation where, due to ROW and tiebreakers, in the final game of the year, an OT win would have sent them to the playoffs, but going to a shootout win or loss would have eliminated them.
I was hoping to see if they'd pull their goals in OT for that reason, but the penguins had won already, making it a moot point.
A key part to this no one has mentioned, where minny is at in the standings if they catch up they could very well be tied in pts for a playoff spot. Shootout wins are a negative for tiebreaker, so they don't want any games going to shootout right now
I was at this game – you could literally feel everybody in the stadium hold their breath when Fleury dashed for the bench
telling u everyone is sleeping on tyson forester! future champ for sure
That’s Wild hockey decisions!
