I would consider putting the Sabres in the next tier up. They’re only 6 points out of contention and have been playing better. If they actually manage to get a hotstreak going this season they’d have good odds.
Of course, saying that, they’re now guaranteed a 5 game slide that cements that they won’t make it.

The Leafs are not elite. Also, the standings aren’t gonna reflect it at any point, but hockey’s weird, and I think generally the Oilers, Avalanche, and Hurricanes are better than the Canucks, Jets, and Rangers, but I’m fine with this because the split between those two groups is that the Canucks, Jets, and Rangers have significantly better goaltending, and I probably underrate teams led by star goalies in general because of their volatility. Still think we’ll see an Oilers/Panthers final, which was my pre-season pick iirc. Might’ve been Oilers/Hurricanes.
