The way Derek Lalonde described the whole game, especially the first period, at the 3:56 mark of the video, it seemed like he cared. Had he not cared, then we would’ve had a bigger issue with him as a head coach. But he cared. Our men responded in the second period and beyond. Raymond’s second goal of the game with 12.6 seconds remaining gave the team the much needed spark, and Kane finished it in OT because he’s still HIM. Just gotta keep up the momentum, start off strong with more forechecking, and go full throttle 60 minutes from here on out!!!

how can Lalonde expect his players to play for him when he trashes them every interview opportunity and press conference? has he said a positive word about Kane's play since he's been on the team? all he does is constantly trash him by implication (along w almost everyone else). endless overpraise of Raymond and Larkin and Perron, bashing of everyone else. Kane has been by far the best player pretty much since he got here, including the last 10 games. Raymond has 1 5v5 goal the last 10 games, and 5 goals w Kane assisting w an extra player on the ice for Detroit (+ an empty netter).
i feel like Lalonde expects Kane to leave, or they know Kane's going to leave. so they don't want to say anything positive about him and instead want to build up the young homegrown player who'll be around. otherwise it's honestly just bizarre. it seems like he won't even speak his name anymore or reference him in press conferences.

Derek, this kind of statement is what many of us fans have such a hard time understanding. Why don't you name the players who can't cope, or aren't willing to give 100% in games that matter so much to the team and the organization. You are very cautious even during this match, no changes in lines, have plenty of time to use a timeout and it takes for ever before YOU call it.
Many of us fans have realized that you have lost the room. The only way to win it back is to set limits and forcefully grab those players who simply slide and aren't willing to contribute. RW has had a very expensive press box during the season, use it as a means to spice things up. There are always opportunities to call up players who are more than happy to take away someone else's work.
Glad Raymond is taking over as a leader alony with Kane they have to play this way rest of the way.Lalonde isn't the guy. Team is never ready to play and only turns it on when they absolutely have to. Yes it was a huge win but I'm skeptical they make the playoffs still. He isn't the right coach he doesn't know how to motivate and get the most of his roster. If they start games like they did last night they won't win a single game on the road trip. Thursday is a must win at home before the road trip.
Not a playoff team. Not enough skill to play within a system, if Lalonde has a system to speak of. Dismissing their play as a “lack of execution” or inconsistency downplays the fact the roster players don’t have the skill to play NHL hockey. They are consistent. Consistently the worse team in a game. Consistently flubbing defensive assignments.
Raymond is becoming a unit. I love to see it. Holy crap I love Kaner. Please stay Kane. It’s nice to see Lalonde actually give a crap.
Some what Steve y to be fired what a shame , some wanted him to make trades he knew they would not go far and you want him give up prospects for what ? it’s not his fault if these guys are playing like they should there be no problem you have to have a coach with some grit and get these guys going still believe Yzerman can do it , how many teams have never won the cup , or look at Toronto they haven’t won in years
Newsy keeps taking responsibility for these awful starts and it’s the players. They lace them up and take the minutes with no drive. Guys need to man up and own this as a group.
