Ricky Racky just needs an offseason to get his head right and body rested. I think the injury from early in the season is making him play with hesitation. Wouldn't be surprised if he puts up 20 again next year.
I do agree with you Nick. I've liked Rakell since he got here. Yes, Smith can and should go along with others. Jury is still out on what Dubas is made of?? He appointed himself as the " man" so, be the "man"!!!
I think putting him on the third line is a waste. He plays well with crosby but doesnt really fit in the line up with malkin (either does smith , only doc seems to play well on the 2nd line at this point but thats because of his own hustle). Im hoping he can rebound because when he is on he is a dynamic player.
How do you take a guy that scored 28 goals last year off of Crosby's line and play him for 17 straight games on malkin's with absolutely putrid numbers? Between Rust and Rakell they had 48 goals last year. This year after changing lines they have 27 between them. What an epic fail by Sully.
Smith can shoot all he wants, but he couldn’t hit a barn. Rackell does ok on 1st line, but 9 goals ? Thank God for Rusty and DOC.
Dubas is an ass.
If he doesn't work out there's always Rusty to take his place
I am guessing Smith gets traded and Rackell bounces back. Do you think that EK65 could be traded to Ottawa for Jakob Chrychrun? Owner, GM and head coach have changed since he was there and Alfredsson is now involved. EK is 33, Chychrun is 25.
I like rakell a lot I almost bought his jersey but I don’t know if he’ll be here after this summer 😂
Keep him at all cost,, hes one of the few guys who throw the body and he is a proven goal scorer
Realistically Rakell is only 30 or 31. So many players under performing with the Pens,and we still don't think it's our system that is super terrible?
keep Rakell, trade Smith and EK. From the travel hockey level mistakes I seen from EK on the defensive side of things last night alone, it warrants discussion. Malkin i honestly think is extremely close to being done with hockey, so IMO, that opens the door for DOC to move to a second line center spot given with what he's showed this year, he deserves the shot at least.
Yeah near zero chance they’re going to be able to trade Rakell this offseason. No one is going to want a 30 year old who scored 9 goals with 4 yrs, $5 million per year. His struggles to finish were no different than the rest of the team. So I’d want to see if a different coaching staff can get him back to where was last year when he was one of their best players. Then maybe offload him after he bounces back, because eventually that contract is going to age very badly lol

even when he isn't producing points, his battle level is always good for me. but, i think this is a trend that traces back to the ducks, which is why they traded him to us in the first place. i wouldn't be upset if they sent him out.
It is fun to watch these pundits pretend the Pens, with one or two depth moves, become contenders. Dubas has declared that is over. The Pens elite core was drafted after 4yrs out of the playoffs. Sid was a coin flip with the Ducks. Pain is coming. Stop pretending Riley Smith matters. No cups until reality is accepted.
smith and rakell can both go only way you keep rakell if you change the coaching staff he cant play sullivans system just like every other player that comes to pittsburgh and the coaching change has to happen before the start of pre season so the new coach can implement his system without sullivan contaminating what ever player dubas brings in during the off season
