I’d like to think they’ll increase their chances of Lottery pick after their games against NYR, NJD, and Wash this week.
That site is always a day or two out of date. They’re behind Buffalo and NJ in the 10 spot after last night result.
Just throw away this years 14th or whatever it turns out to be and keep next year because we are going to suck more

11th pick is ideal imo, gives us a slim chance at the lottery but still goes to San Jose if we don’t get it
Out of curiosity those of you that think we will be worse next year, why? There will likely be significant roster overhaul this summer. Potentially trading smith, graves, poj and letting carter walk and not re signing bemstrom or harkins. Combined with the cap going up and letting the younger guys playing now play next season there should be plenty of money to make moves and improve the roster.
Is this opinion solely based on coaching and that without a change they wont be any better? I honestly think next seasons team will be younger faster and have more energy and while maybe not a playoff team will finish just outside a wc spot. Id rather take the top 10 this year than hope next year is a better pick.

We’ve had really bad luck this season, team will be significantly better finishing 3rd in metro next season.

I’m slowly starting to suspect that our goals this year is to narrowly fail to reach the playoffs and also lose any chance at a top pick in the draft.

They were never really in the hunt for a lottery pick. They have been close to a playoff spot for a long time. Heck they were tied for a playoff spot 32-38 games in. Then they have had a worse record since. They are 9-13-4 in their last 26 games, or 12-15-7 in their last 34. It’s not like they crawled out of last place to finish out of the lottery picks.
5-9-3 in their last 17 isn’t really playing yourself out of much.
If you want to feel better, remind yourselves that the McDavid’s Oilers have never made it past the Conference Finals and could potentially lose to the VGK in the first round
