Nothing says I suck at my job like punishing someone for calling out your poor performance. The refs these days need to get their egos checked.

I don't even think 2 for unsportsmanlike should even be a penalty when directed at the ref. You didn't foul the other team, or cheat in any way, so why should the other team get an advantage just because the ref thought you went too far with your yapping? Those should just be 10s and games if it's against the ref. Of course, refs can't be throwing 10s and games out willy-nilly just because their feelings hurt. This cross check call was terrible to begin with, and I don't know what he said to get a game, but any ref who calls a 2 for some yapping you know is pretty soft, so the 10 and the game might not have even been warranted either.

I can't blame the player for getting mad. I don't like the call. But he should of just wanted into the box.
That was clearly diving. The NHL needs to start handing out fines to these officials before it turns into basketball
When I coached college hockey, I told my players don't argue with the ref. You can voice your displeasure in a spirited manner, but don't argue about the call, because I've never seen a hockey ref reverse a penalty call in my life. Addison was selfish and didn't care about his team.
The bigger issue at hand here is Addison’s knob on his stick

Four penalties? Pick two.
These announcers are absolute clowns. These kind of interactions where players are upset and lose respect for the game, their teammates (2 minute penalty, 10 minute misconduct and a game), the referees and their self-respect is far too common. It’s this kind of abuse that refs take on a consistent basis from players that gets normalized and that co-signs parents losing their shit on their kids coaches and amateur referees. That being said, it just feels like there’s nothing we can do on an individual basis. It’s just disappointing to see it continue to poison a game that means so much to people.

That ref should never touch NHL ice again. Crossing check is a strike not a push and he went down trying to draw a call. Ref makes a bad call. Addison complains and ref doubles down then doubles down again like a true wannabe tyrant.
