Just pro-rate the remaining salary in the season. If 1/3 of the season is left when the player is put on LTIR, then 2/3 of the salary that counts towards the cap will then still count towards the salary cap.
The same guy just happening to get injured for just long enough at just the right time three years in a row is bordering on Powerball jackpot probability levels. I mean, at least they admit it. Their fans should do the same. You're the Astros of the NHL. If that's how you want to win, it's pretty pathetic.
Best thing that could happen is Vegas wins another Cup this year.
That would bring many win-win situations.
1) Vegas is happy.
2) Hertl wins a Cup(some Sharks fans would be happy for Tomas)
3) With so much backlash from bitter hockey fans in Canada and US there would be an emergency meeting to fix the LTIR rule.

As an Avs fan this is so frustrating. Landeskog actually has an injury, that’s what the rules is for. Not for people like Stone. Cheaters in my book

Agree, Brodie, this is a very unsavory manipulative move, but which the NHL left themselves wide open to.
It’s a joke teams are aloud to do this ( Tampa did it) but until the league decides to change the rules it’s going to happen.
There is nothing wrong with the LTIR structure in its current form.
They have had years to plug the hole in the rules. When Tampa Bay did this a few years ago, I assumed the NHL would just extend the salary cap into the post-season. It beats the alternative, which is if you are too hurt to play in the season, then you must be too hurt to play in the playoffs.
Wait until some pissed off team gets their revenge against this by sending out a goon to put them back on LTIR.
The others hate it because their team's management are so incompetent, if this happened to their team they will have no problem with it.
A lacerated spline isn’t an injury that most come back from in a 2 month span, it is a 3-6 month minimum time frame, that’s why I believe everyone is skeptical about the whole situation. I do believe something needs to be done because yes being $10+ million over the cap in playoffs is a very unfair advantage u are forced to play cap compliant during regular season why aren’t teams being kept in check come playoffs, say maybe allow teams to go over cap by $5 million only in playoffs and come up with some other things teams need to be compliant about
Brodie, I haven't seen anyone else mention the fact that EVERY NHL playoff team exceeds the "Salary Cap". After the NHL trade deadline, the maximum roster size of 23 active players is eliminated and thus allows an unlimited number of players on the active roster. Until the playoffs start though, they must still stay under the salary cap for the active roster. Now, once playoffs start, every NHL team recalls their top backup players from the minor leagues to start practicing with the starters to prepare them for next man up situations, thus activating 30+ players total or more is common practice easily raising their active player salaries an additional 5 to 8 million (theoretically of course since there is no paid salary during the playoffs). Since the CAP is calculated using activated players on the roster not just the 20 players that skate during a game, I don't see a single playoff team that doesn't exceed the CAP.
For those that don't know, playoff teams are paid a lump sum the further they make it into the playoffs. The more they win the more money they make (although the dollar amount may be peanuts compared to their seasonal salaries.)
If its not against the rules its not cheating
Vegas isn't bending the rules. Stone was injured in action in the regular season. We all saw the hit. Spleen injuries like this take 8-10 weeks to heal. It's week 9.
This needs to be dealt with in the off season.

The Knights just qualified for the playoffs. They suffered through a horrible losing streak 3 weeks ago and righted the ship. They dug in and now they will put their skates on the throats of the rest of the league. There are a lot of teams with 1 or 2 great players but VEGAS has BY FAR the BEST TEAM!!! Out of the 16 playoff teams, they have the 13th most points but yet, They are listed as the 6th betting favorites. My family is moving back to Vegas on the 23rd of this month. Just in time to witness the REPEAT!!!!! GO KNIGHTS!!!!! And for the host of this video, sign a complaint and march with the rest of the country. Vegas is TRUMP LIKE! They don't sit around and wait for someone to say everything is OK!!!
I dont see why other teams care anymore ,the stanley cup is a joke ,won by cheats ,tax circumvention,cap circumvention ,ufas who only sign with certain teams ,let these teams have their fake cups ,they are not worth much with all the cheating .as a canadian i will watch international competition and see who the real champions are ,let the cheats have their sinking worth nothing league championship
