Here’s a thought for you: the flyers simply weren’t scoreboard watching. Their situation would’ve also required the pens to lose as well, they had to play and take care of business today and then wait for tomorrow. To me, there’s no way in hell they knew or wanted to know, especially considering the fact they’d be doing it tomorrow.
And even if torts did know, why would he tell the players and change the strategy?
“Oh yeah we’re out of the playoffs now season’s over” with like 3-4 minutes left.

Honestly with no dog in the fight I was rooting for any of the other 4 teams to get in over the capitals, I just find them remarkably boring to watch but congrats to them and their fans.

To those pissed off and wanted the Wings in, just remember, Detroit had a huge skid a month a go, after playing fairly well. If they didn’t go 1-8 in that 9 game stretch, they’d easily have this last playoff spot and hell maybe have the 7th seed.
Instead of blaming the playoff/point format, blame the teams who you wanted to get in for coming up short a shit ton of times earlier in the year. You can apply this to literally every team sport.
