That is such an underestimated statistic. Hits win 50/50 puck battles. Hits make your opponent hesitant to grind. I’m happy to see the leafs toward the top of the list but obviously fuck Florida and Boston.
Every time we are good at something there are 1 or 2 teams in our division who are better

Home rinks always pad these stats. I’d take any stat like this with a grain of salt.
There is no way this team hits more than the Islanders or Philly, especially since Toronto is a possession team, and you need to not have the puck in order to hit (legally).

Hits are counted by the home arena and in Toronto they hand them out very generously.
Earlier in the year it was posted we are the #1 team in the league at home and bottom 10 on the road. We are much tougher than in the past, especially in scrums and standing up for teammates, but we are not laying hits to hurt. Mostly love taps that count as hits in Toronto.
