  1. I don't think you should be kicking yourself over it, Sheng. 100% the right move to not jump the gun when it comes to someone's job/livelihood

  2. Grier has said over and over he wanted a team hard to play against. I anticipate he will go out this offseason and find those types of players like Carrick, Perry, Hathaway, etc. He likes Kunin-type players.

  3. I keep thinking that Quinn should have fired Grier for the players that he was given to forge into a team. Mike Grier wants to try something better, and find a coach that works better with the players. Either a) Quinn is the scapegoat for Sharks organization coming in last; or b) Quinn was not the right coach because he did not get the most or push these misfit players enough, whatever he did, the players did not respond positively. I think there is an element of hypocrisy in being impatient with Quinn after 2 years when we are expected to give Mike Grier 5 to 7 years to "re-build" this team. Maybe a more pushy or desperate or aggressive coach will work better, maybe a European coach to work with new players, or a wild experiment with a player like Joe Thornton to see if he can bring the team together better with his less cerebral approach to game. Sharks players need to recover their love of the game and not be deflated by a bad puck bounce or ref call. I think Grier will go through multiple coaches in this re-build rather than stick with one steady coach for 7 years. Grier is entitled to experiment and change faces but has to stabilize the team identity and scout much better to identify the right kind of prospects.

  4. Horrible team put together by MG, but the way they lost this year is unacceptable. There are plenty of good proven coaches to pick from and majority are much better then Quinn.

  5. These are the tank years. Who cares who the HC is? Maybe Grier wanted to see more work ethic, but that’s tough for 82 games when you’re icing barely AHL level talent. Keep losing Sharks, get top picks, and set the tone when the kids are ready for the show.

  6. 1:01:20 I think this hits the nail on the head. I don't hate the move of letting Quinn go, but am a little worried about what it might suggest for Grier's plan with the rebuild. Is it a sign that he wants to move things too quickly? Probably not, but combined with what he's said about Smith coming over, it's at least worth considering.

I don't think there's much point in trying to improve the team too fast. Sure, more than 47 points would be ideal next year… that's not a good environment for development. But you'd still really like to get one more really premium top 3 pick in next year's draft. Then, you can look to start building up a bit more. Make the coaching changes for a longer term building-up of the team.

This is probably just one way he's trying to make adjustments for next year. But I hope it's not a sign that he's trying to pull out of the rebuild too fast, and trying to improve too much at once. Not a terrible move, but I think it happened one year too early.

  7. I agree that the firing seems unfair based on the roster construction. But what about Calen Addison, Filip Zadina, development? These two seemed to regress.

  8. What about Ryan Warsofsky as the next head coach? I read that Grier might be looking for a younger coach that the roster can grow with. Ryan won the Calder cup in 2021/22.
The down side is Ryan worked for 2 years with this roster, so would this roster be willing to listen to Warsofsky?

  9. Yes, I think Mike Grier is feeling the heat from Hasso Plattner and the business operations aspect of the team. You can't field a team that is so uncompetitive that you have only 4-5 thousand in the Arena most weeknight games.
