  1. Coach Roy was correct “We win as a team, we lose as a team.” My experience with a goalie that could play? It was always from the neck up, if he struggled. Our goalie would play the opposition and they couldn’t get a marble past him, let alone the puck
for 2-3 weeks and all of a sudden, out of the blue, he’d have a 1-4 game stretch where he couldn’t stop a beachball! I know; it wasn’t the NHL level. However, it was on a fairly decent level and when he played badly it was always in Joe’s head. (That was our netminder's name) and he’s my son’s Godfather. Freddy Anderson was the difference tonight. I’ve finally learned at 52 years old “It’s just a hockey game.” Good job Gil. Let’s go Isles

  2. "sorokin stumbles" god, why was he not in game 2? Why treat him like a Hail Mary rookie? Varly is good, but they LOST game one, make the change then not when you're against the wall. Sorokin was thrown to the wolves and disrespected, shame on Roy and whoever thought this was a good idea. Tell Varly there's a short leash tonight and pull him after 2 goals for Sorokin. Don't chuck in there for the start, then do this to the most talented player on your team. I don't blame sorokin for not being there, they treated him as a scapegoat. No one's gonna talk about the 2rd period blown lead now and just dogpile on sorokin, trash org.

  3. We lost to the better team. No shame in that. The shame comes if the organization does not make some moves to improve the team by making them younger. The window has closed on this group of players. Only question is: Is Lou the right GM for the job?

  4. The Islanders played better tonight, but the better team won. Sorokin's struggles continued as they have for most of the season. He's not the sole reason they lost, but he was a contributor for sure. To me, the Islanders averaging only 2 goals per game in the series is the biggest contributor to being 1 game away from being swept. Their inability to bury their chances has hurt them all season long, and tonight was no exception.

  5. Gil, the first goal deflected off Reilly’s stick. Good let’s put varly in and have Skarek as the backup. Let’s get this season over with on Saturday. We don’t win matinee’s anyway. Shouldn’t have even made the playoffs with our loser points. I’m still praying malkin will get rid of senile Lou! But will I be surprised if he’s back next year definitely NOT. Will I be shocked if the fossil resigns clutter and Martin. Nope! Let’s go Mets

  6. I did once post, I hope the islanders don’t make the playoffs, because I didn’t want to see them humiliated, it wouldn’t matter who they played 1st round, great show on point as always thank you Gil, ie Sorokin’s starts getting 8.5M next year that’s a big investment hopefully he turns back to the all star goalie he’s capable of being

  7. TRADE SIROKIN HE IS OVERRATED AND OVERPAID AND HE IS STUPID. HE DOESNT KNOW WHERE THE PUCK IS NOR DOES HE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU CANT STAND AT THE TOP OF THE CREASE. IT'S NOT THAT HE WAS TERRIBLE TONIGHT HE HAS BEEN TERRIBLE SINCE 2021.

  8. Gil always nails it! I understand why they switched goalies, (change momentum) but I think when you go into the playoffs you should stick to your guy unless he's failing miserably. Varly played well in Games 1 & 2. No reason to switch. But okay, it's Sorokin, so you think it might gives us an edge. Sadly, it didn't work. I don't think the goals he let up tonight though were entirely his fault. Maybe one or two he could have had, but still they were good shots. The defense should never let the opposition get that close and have that much time to set up. I get Roy was hoping for a boost, but honestly Varly would have stopped at least one of the three goals, in my opinion. And you make things worse by switching sometimes. Still, the way this team is playing we all know they're done. I don't blame our goalies at all. In fact, they're the reason why we made the playoffs. Our best players are not scoring (where's Horvat & Barzal?) and the defense although it's minimizing shots somehow always facocks it up at the worst moments like the 3rd and 4th goals in game two. We cannot get out of our zone to save our lives either! I say fire Lou at this point and trade almost everyone and start fresh. This group has gone as far as it can.

  9. Just wanted to give you a shoutout Gil. I'm a canes fan and listen to you when the teams meet and imo this is one of the better locked on's out there.

  10. Thank God, this miserable season will be over on Saturday. The Islanders need a major retooling and have no business being in the playoffs.

  11. How does a goalie lose the skill of tracking the puck?? A vision issue maybe? Whatever it is Ilya needs to fix it..

  12. Exhaustion??? He had plenty days off, mental yes!! no confidence easy 5 hole goals, shots right at his chest go under his arm.. I think he might be done period smdh

  13. After the season is over on Saturday (just staying the inevitable) I’d love to hear Lou state that he has faith in this roster. He seriously needs to go and the islanders need to start the rebuild.

  14. Ilya Sir Chokin hopefully gets back to form or it’s gonna be a long 8 yeara being he signed a Lou contract.

  15. Yes Sorokin is bad what about Barzal? NELSON? CIZICAS? MARTIN? JGP? PALMIERI? PULOCK? PELECH? LEE? DOBSON?……Let them GOOO I am tired of them ….F U …ALLin Islanders organization .
    .

    Whole team SUCK..
    .

  16. I did not like the decision to start Ilya here, and he didn't play well, but that's missing the point of what's going on in this series. You said it well, Gil, the Hurricanes are just the better team. We saw that in all three games. You also said it well the Islanders best players failed them in this series.

I am not sure what answers Patrick has at this point. He can only do so much.

I hate to say this, but this is a sweep on Saturday.

  17. We witnessed a top 20 all time comeback the other day. The Islanders were on the losing end of that comeback. That loss will be held in the collective memories of all current Islanders and Islander fans for years to come. The solution is to trade literally everyone that was on the ice that day, including Barzal. Collect youth and draft picks. Let’s get ready to watch a young exciting team grow over a period of years.

  18. Good 🌄, Gil, how are you? Sorokin was has having a hard ⌚ from the opening face-off. When Patrick Roy rolled the dice by starting Sorokin, ended up with 🐍 👀. I said it before, and I'll say it again, THE ISLANDERS NEED TO GET MAD. His confidence reality took a hit, and he's got a 8M contract that goes into effect next year. 🐐 Sorokin for his shakiness. Hero Engvall for scoring the 1st goal, abd he was solid. The three B's are not on their game. I understand Noah Dobson is playing hurt, but they still need to clean up their act. If The Islanders are going to be Cardiac Kids, they're going to work, Otherwise Lou Lamoriello's going to make some serious changes like he should've done before March 10th. I hope Ishkakov gets to play tomorrow. HAPPY 🎂, VARLY He's 36 I thought he was 26 the was playing I ❤ it. To cheer myself up, I watched how Trots ate The Flyers alive when he went 5 fie 5. Hear from you tomorrow I hope, and LET'S GO ISLANDERS.

  19. Once Carolina got the lead they could play their game bottling up the Islanders and frustrating them. They knew how to protect the lead and the Isels did…not rebuild now. I am wondering how good Barzal is now…or maybe he needs to change his game and stop carrying the puck in the playoffs and dump the puck and forecheck like the rest of the team. I will say very few goalies are hot right now. Barkov is ridiculous for the Panthers and Swayman and Schesterkin hasn’t had to do much and Ottinger is playing so so.

  20. they are just the better team….yeah anderson was great….that's the playoffs …we have no finishers. i don't care how many shot attempts there are…it's goals. we don't have the horses…i love casey cizikas, but on what planet or other team is he a top line winger. we just don't have the talent.. we are opening game with pageu , lee and engvel (and i know that line had a goal ) but come on …we just have no talent. i think our d is a huge problem too. none of them can skate with the puck, can't skate the puck out to clear the zone or lead a rush, quarterback a power play and every game there's at least a couple of times where they totally collapse in defensively too. i feel for sorokin. this is going to be hard to not ruin this kid which is what i was saying early under lane when he was getting shelled every night…not like magically going to be so easy with this squad to get his confidence back…anyone seeing sorokin bouncing back and having 940 sv percent next year with this squad in front of him?

  21. We are not winning this series. It s right there for us all to see. I hope the boys are polishing their golf clubs because they will be able to get right to it after Saturday's game. We have not been able to put pucks in the net all year. We play with heads down, desperate, hope passing, and at the mercy of puck luck most of the time. Losing game 2 sealed their fate with the hockey Gods for this season as far as I am concerned. To beat the Canes you need to be unrelentingly physical in close space. At times it seems like we are physically keeping up with their speed but mentally we are not. The feeling of desperation is palpable when watching. Looks like they blew all their reserves, mental and physical, just trying to get in. Was is really worth it for 4 extra games? With hind sight now it seems not.

  22. Canes fan here. This feels like how we used to fall to the bruins all the time in the playoffs. We will eventually fall off the wagon and y’all are gonna smack us in a series. It’s just not that time yet. I genuinely was scared shitless to play you guys because I felt like the time for y’all to slay the dragon was now, especially coming into the series so hot. God damnit I hate the fucking rangers and am not looking forward to playing them either.

  23. Man this sucks! I bought game 4 tickets before the playoffs started. And all i said was pleez dont let us be down 0-3 when i go. And what happens? Exactly that!! Man i hope islanders can at least win game 4. I hate the hurricanes and especially Aho. I do not wanna be in attendance to watch him celebrate. Cmon boys at least get us one win at home!! And i agree Gil i felt bad for sorokin last nite. I think he put alotta pressure on himself and got into his own head. And to be honest i was alil disappointed last nite when the fans cheered him getting pulled and started chanting varley! Im all for cheering on varley hes been playing great. But its just my opinion that it was premature and outta line in that situation. Sorokin has had some big games for us over the past few years and didn't deserve that.

  24. Gm Gil. My bigger concern here is that Sorokin's play is heading entirely in the wrong direction leaving us all wondering whether his confidence is shattered because his play last night was just plain terrible. Given how much better the Canes are the Isles play not only has to be flawless, every opportunity has to be capitalized on. Romanov and Dobson both had wide open space to net the puck and both shot the puck right into the keeper's glove. Not a single player on the team has more than 1 goal in the series. With the Isles about to be erased from this series 4-0 this team needs housecleaning starting with Lou and members of every line leaving just a few players. I expect Lou to tweak the lineup and this team to be again below 500 and scrapping for the last 2 spots.

  25. I feel like the same thing happened with Barzal once he got his big payday. As soon as Sorokin signed that big contract it seems like his game took a dive. Not sure if it has anything to do with not being as hungry anymore because you achieved a monetary goal and mentally you feel like you don't have to try as hard. Hopefully Sorokin can get back to his former self in net. Thanks Gil!

  26. This team just doesn't have it. They are slow to pucks, give up the blue line way to easy. Can't make outlet passes. Get hemmed in their own zone for long periods of time then have to dump and change. Can't set up in the ozone, too many one and done plays. The special teams are just a joke. Can't take advantage of the few opportunities they manage to get. Just outmatched in all areas of the ice.

  27. Canes fan here… Isle's could learn some lessons from what the Canes went through before becoming a successful organization. Keep in mind we missed the playoffs for 10 straight years, before new ownership and management turned things around. Here are some of things the Canes did, some obvious, maybe some not… 1. Draft wisely, accumulate prospects (easier said than done. 2. Lock in the best while they're still RFA – Canes made sure to keep Aho, Svech and others before they became superstars. 3. Avoid long term contracts with aging players 4. When a good player hits free agency and we're outbid, you just have to let them go, let other teams overpay. 5. Finally, don't trade away prospects at the trade deadline unless the team is a serious contender for the Cup.
