  1. Habs will get average goaltending next year- if their special teams improve, this level of goaltending will make them competitive…

  2. Goaltending is an ongoing project but the team defense also contributed to the lower quality of the current goals against. Team defense has to improve before you worry about what is coming along.

  3. Montembault shows his warts, look at his record vs contending teams.
From your description Fowler is the exact opposite of Montembault: Good puck tracking, good positioning, no guessing.

  4. I think Primeau was doing well and Monty was over .500 points. For us being in year 2 of a pretty major retool its good. Considering we also have Fowler who shows starter potential. We wont be like Winnipeg or Boston goaltending but like a Florida or Calgary. Not too worried about that

  5. Montambeault and Primeau are just caretakers until the others are ready, neither can be a #1,imo.Volokhin is the dark horse of the remaining 4, but maybe the one with the most potential. We have to get him over here to really judge his play against better competition.Fowler looks solid but his size worries me.I like Dobes' agressiveness and size, needs better rebound control from what i saw,he was much better in the second half. As for the kid in Rimouski,i have yet to see him play,so i defer to your assessment. With all these promising goalies in the system, maybe we can work out a trade with Edmonton for one of them, they seem to need one,# Skinner not good enough.Go habs go.

  6. Good video. Monty, Primeau, and the D will all improve next year. Will it be enough? This club will get into the playoffs only if the scoring improves a lot.

  7. If they can keep a goalie coach in there without changing them out every two years that would help.

This season will be the first time both Monty & Primeau get to work together and OWN the net.

The goalies on NHL ice are the only ones that count.

They can't be assessed with the same measuring stick as players that skate out. They take a lot longer to develop.

Goalies very much need international training and height to achieve elite status.

I'm going to say Monty and Primeau have bright futures in front of them. That's all we can say.

But it's your goalie coach that really counts.

  8. While a more solid defensive core would definitely help out both Monty and Cayden I do believe that neither is their #1 goalie when the team is ready to make a run in the playoffs. Both will be solid backups but the duties of the #1 will rest with someone else in my opinion. Could be someone who we already have such as Fowler or it can be a UFA that Hughes chases in a 3-4 years.
