Most people thought Islanders would get swept or lose in five. They’re on par for that and any win is a bonus.
The Lightning have been fighting hard, they’re losing but it’s close.
The Leafs game yesterday was not pretty. The score doesn’t tell the whole story, they got crushed. So that’s more of a recency bias, because the other games were closer.

So if the Leafs don’t win a cup by 2030, the band that has their last Stanley cup win is removed from the Cup. These guys are playing like they aren’t even wanting to preserve the Leafs name on the cup, and are fine with it being in a museum it feels like.

Islanders were never expected to beat Carolina, their team is just not good enough to beat them. The lightning won back-to-back cups in 2020 and 2021, then made the final in 2022, they have been a competitive playoff team year after year and have only now shown signs of regression. The Leafs on the other hand, won their first playoff series since 2004 last year, and then got bounced in the second round and are already regressing against a bruins team that has much less depth than the bruins team of 2023. It is all about expectation. Leafs pay 4 guys 10+ mill a year, they should not be down 3-1 in the series.
