  1. Oilers are just the better team. Better matched into the Kings. If McDavid-Hyman wasn't going absolutely superrnova we'd be talking about how solid the bottom 6 have been playing – Holloway adding a noticeable energy there. If the Oil remember they can play elite defence for about 17 games or so the kings gotta start thinking about their tee times.

  2. the oilers dismantled the 1-3-1. i was pretty pissed when woodcroft was fired but knoblock really seems to be a great tactical coach, hes great at making adjustments.

  3. Long post follows with base game statistics including some for the LA Kings. Read, don't read, up to you. These are BASE stats not detailed ones. My comments at the end.

I rarely do this but here is the penalty summary by team by period:

    Period 1: Oilers:

Ekholm 2 mins Hooking, Bouchard, 2 mins Hooking

    Period 1: Kings:

Kempe 2 mins Holding, Doughty, 2 mins Holding (PP Goal scored on this penalty)

    Period 2: Oilers:

    Draisaitl 2 mins Hooking

    Period 3: Oilers:

Desharnais 2 mins Roughing, Holloway 2 mins Roughing, Kane 5 mins Fighting, McLeod 2 mins Unsportsmanlike Conduct, Kulak 2 mins Roughing, Bouchard 2 mins Roughing, Bouchard 10 mins Misconduct, Kane 10 mins Misconduct, Foegele 2 mins Interference, Foegele 2 mins Tripping

    Period 3: Kings:

Kopitar 2 mins Roughing, Kopitar 2 mins Unsportsmanlike Conduct, Kempe 2 mins Roughing, Englund 5 mins Fighting, (the prior goals resulted in an Oilers PP Goal), Dubois double minor Roughing (2x 2 mins), Byfield 2 mins Roughing, Dubois 10 minute Misconduct, (the penalties starting with the double minor resulted in an Oilers PP goal), Anderson 2 mins Slashing, Doughty 10 min Misconduct, Fiala 2 mins Tripping

Oilers WANTED this and got it (though sometimes you can regret what you get). It was a lively affair (if you consider 92 minutes of combined penalty time lively) with multiple misconducts given and Kane getting the ever allusive Gordie Howe Hatrick in a Playoff game (Goal, Assist, Fight (with ejection)). Some said the game got "chippy" in the third period. That's like calling a Tsunami "moisture" unless the chipping involved axes. This was an 80's game really. The fights, the blowout (no mercy style). Many of the 3rd and 4th liners were playing ABOVE their pay grade. I took special notice of Janmark, he was WORKING IT all night. Holloway didn't get a goal this game but he too was flying out there. LA Hit More (9 more actually so not inconsequential). Oilers shot more (like 12 more so not inconsequential). Oilers PP was running nearly 50% and the PK at 100% (and with all of the penalties in the 3rd those boys walk on water (when it's frozen or rain has soaked the sidewalk). Math wise this was a really fun game. I loved when LA scored and the Oilers (Kane) came back about a minute later to score. Oilers had this one pretty much from the jump. Now to do it 2 more times and move on. Take care all.

  4. That England hit was clean and oiler fans are acting like the guy tried to kill him and that he should be banned in the nhl. Can’t make this shit up

  5. How can a hockey channel with multiple team memorabilia in the background not have the most storied franchise in the NHL and one of the most in sports history? We get the thrashers instead of the Canadiens. That’s such a Boston thing to do

  6. That game did get out of hand, but in Oilers favour. Kings’s strategy to frustrate the Oilers with physicality backfired on them.

  7. This was a joke, Edmonton definitely have a book on Talbot. And can pass through the 131 far too easily. Unless BSD decides to be a world beater this is over in 5.

  8. Here’s the kings plan moving forward if I was gm- buyout PLD. Trade doughty. Trade byfield. Trade Gavrikov. Trade Moore. Resign Rittich or Copley, promote Portillo, trade fagemo, promote Clarke or trade him. Promote turcotte. After this I’d have to figure out what to do with Danault and Kempe and kopitar because they will not want to go thru a retool but you don’t want your young guys to be the only players. This team is really good against non playoff teams and really bad against good teams. We miss dean lombardi.

  9. I think the Kings need to consider not making the same mistake they made last year by leaving Korpisalo in too long. I think it's time to go to Rittich next game.

  10. Pilers need to keep the sense of urgency going. It would be very benificial to win this series early for a little rest. No need to overcome adversity and grind out a 7th game OT win. Oilers have been there and built that character already. Lets build some killer instinct and put this team away and get eeady for the next one.

  11. The one thing I worry about is if Kane loses his head in game 4.
If he can funnel it into being replicating his performance for game 3, He could be a series breaker.

  12. I know you are watching multiple games so its very tough but you gotta admit kings were playing extremely dirty.

  13. Review the Oilers cakewalk win if you like.
But what needs to be addressed are the games they LOSE. They're pretty much always due to roller-coaster goaltending.
Scoring is rarely an issue for Edm….but when they don't get 4+ goals, any game becomes a crapshoot. Is it a good night in net, or a Skinner Stinkbomb?
Perfect example: Game 2 in Edmonton.

  14. It's amazing how much different the game is when Edmonton plays their style and just blows out the other team within the first 20 minutes. I mean this one was over after the first and then it just keep getting dragged on and on lmao. The Oil need to stick to this kind of energy!

  15. I'm confused as to how this comes as any surprise to anyone at this point… LA does not have what it takes to compete with Edmonton in a best of 7 series.

  16. Two Canadian teams should not be forced to eliminate one or the other until later in the playoffs, like the semi finals, maybe? Oilers vs Canucks'd be a good one, though.

  17. To be honest Kings just don’t want to win. They’re ok with being mediocre.

Play well in the regular season and totally choke in playoffs. Would’ve totally been happy if the Kings just lost their spot and left their season at that.

Like the wings! Sucked they didn’t make it but hell had a good season and a lovely last couple games. Would have had that over what kings are currently doing. Total ass.

  18. So many players were being shown the gate I think they could have had their own hockey game on some outside rink.

  19. Kings played like hot garbage. Referies were subpar to say the least. I had a chance to go, but have never been so glad I stayed at home with a steak to barbecue and a cocktail in my hand. I am going tomorrow night though and hoping for a different result. Go kings go!

  20. The Kings played bad that is a given but, no one has sufficiently explained how the Oilers got a 2 man advantage from the fight after the Kane open ice hit.

    1. The hit wasn’t even called as penalty on the ice. Oilers fans you have to admit he embellished a bit (if you take a look he got hit in the shoulder not the face, it was a good hit), plus the Oilers have dished out similarly hard hits.
    2. The same amount of players for both teams were in the box (minus Kane because he went to the locker room to be checked for concussion).

Guess we can chalk this up as “Oilers Magic”. The post game comments about the hit by Kane were sufficiently cocky, which sums up the Oilers team identity. Whether Talbot was inside the crease or out, the Oilers shouldn’t have hit him, they had already won. Hyan did the same thing in game 1 when they were up 3-0. It’s bullying, a good team with the amount of skill the Oilers have should not feel the need to play this way, but they do. The 3rd period was bad, Kane (and the Oiler) didn’t need to stir things up, they were already winning with skill. Ultimately this is probably why McDavid’s Oilers struggle to seal the deal in winning a Stanley Cup. It’s sad that a team so stacked with talent is so hated by the rest of the NHL. I wonder what Gary thinks of this.

  21. Finally the oilers are the more experienced team in these playoffs which I'm calling it they're going to the cup. Not sure if they can beat Florida though..
