  1. I keep saying that the Ducks are gonna be a surprise team. Then they go down like they’ve been shot in Duck Hunt.

Please validate the hope I give y’all soon Ducks

  2. "Greg Cronin should be back as head coach."

Greg Cronin looks down as his phone begins ringing…

The problem with them being a bit better is where are the points going to come from to cross that 20 point barrier between Anaheim to where Calgary and Seattle are in the standings? It's a tough time to be trying to fight your way out of the basement of the Pacific.

  3. Plan for improvement is simple
    1. Get top 4 RD
    2. Get top 6 RW
    3. Get replacement for Silf
    4. Cut down on penalties and improve special teams
    5. Pray to god for no major injuries (amount of injuries this year to their top players was absurd)
P.S. i think Suchanek is ahead of Clara and Clang

  4. I think they're going to be pushing hard for Stamkos. The Lightning will have about $12 million in cap space this offseason with about 7 roster spots to fill, so unless Stamkos takes a huge paycut to retire a Lightning, Killorn/Verbeek (Lightning connection) and the Ducks will probably be making a big push for Stammer

  5. Frank Seravalli claimed Gibson wouldnt play a game as a Duck and also started the Zegras rumors. safe to say he is not in the insiders circle in Anaheim.

  6. Ducks fans had high hopes with a new coach that says all the right things, but this was a soooofttt team. So many easy fixes but the coach was unable to stop the passive defensive play and on offense everything was wicked slap shot trying for the impressive goal and no one willing to get greasy.

Now watching the playoffs the Ducks don’t have this gear or aggression. Either a new coach this summer or the GM will finish behind the bench before he too is let go.

  7. I hope it doesnt happen but i think zegras it a couple of bad seasons away from being another sonny milano. Alot of skill and potential but just cant put it together consistently. Hopefully hes healthy next season so we can see what he really brings to the table

  8. For a while I was under the impression McTavish was going to be the long term captain of this team, but recently I've been seeing things that indicate Z is going to be captain. The exit interviews with the team show how liked Z is with practically everyone, especially the newer, younger ducks starting their career this season. Then there's the tough love cronin had been giving Z by benching him or cutting his ice time due to mistakes on the ice. I really think they are trying to mold him into Captain material, and I think hes doing the work to get there. His forechecking and defense have looked much better in the small sample size I've seen this season, his interviews a little bit more serious toned and not super light hearted. If The Ducks can add a Marchessault or a Stamkos in the offseason I think the Ducks could potentially trend in the playoff discussion like GM Pat Verbeek wants. exciting times in Duckland 😀

  9. The honest truth is getting rid of Cam Fowler ads 25 points to the standings. He is brutally bad and throws off the entire team as they try to cover for him. I would buy him out, not even 7th defenseman I have seen enough.

  10. Was watching a disneyLAND livestream the other day and a mother duck and her ducklings were walking across some in the park street.
I was like “are these the mighty ducks of Anaheim?” lol

  11. So if the Zegras contract negotiations weren't contentious there would still be trade rumors? Also, Zegras led the team in points in his second season so how can that be worse than his first full season when he had slightly fewer points? The new Cronin system was a shock to all the young players, not just Zegras. So I would fully expect the kids and vets to reset over the summer and come into camp with their minds in the right place.

  12. Big Ducks fan here since Day 1, this team was so frustrating to watch this season. After their 7-4 start, i was feeling pretty good, then the wheels came off and they could never get on any kind of run. The first problem is it is a VERY undisciplined team, they take way too many penalties and it seems like they are always spending energy on the PK rather than establishing their offense. The offense they run was very choppy at times and looked disorganized, they dont get any cycles going and they have little puck possession. Yes at some point this team HAS to get better, it reminds me of the Oilers a few years ago when they kept getting the No. 1 or No. 2 pick in the draft but the team never improved. I think the defense and Dostal can only do so much. Im excited to see Gauthier play an entire season, we'll see.

  13. Is it just me or are the Ducks one of the least talked about teams in the league? They get such little media coverage it's easy to forget they even exist, especially since their downfall in the last few years.

  14. This Zegras narrative has got to stop. I'm not his biggest fan by any means, but he puts butts in seats and he had back to back 60 point season on the worst team in the league while getting benched anytime he took a penalty. Dude is 23 years old, give him a minute.

  15. I say this as a Red Wings fan knowing Shannon thinks our sweaters are among the best, but I think that the Mighty Ducks jersey is the best the NHL has ever had.

  16. Hockey guy…you don’t know if Zegras is gonna “get it together at the NHL level” ? Cmon Shannon you’ve been exposed to the Ducks enough to know that he’s consistently one of, if not our best forward on a nightly basis. 8 points in his last 8 games creating chances all night and playing solid defense. Kid battles injury (for pretty much the first time in 3 seasons) and has a slow start for 15 games and suddenly the longevity of his NHL career is put into question? He’s going to be a 70-80 point player as if he was even that far off from 70 his first 2 years. Imagine when he has the help of a good team and he’s 25-26

  17. As Ducks fan, I hope to see the team continue build back into being a contender in the West. Perhaps it will coincide with the OCVibe development around the Pond. We still need some pieces.
    Great breakdown – Shannon!

  18. Dallas Eakins destroyed the Ducks. This core is never going to improve because the Corsi Swarm devoured them like it did the 2014 Soilers. Greg Cronin has clear promise as a coach as shown by their start, but when the Zegras drama last summer turns out to be fully warranted because he plays like shit right after signing, then the choice becomes clear.

    BLOW IT UP!

  19. As a Ducks fan my optimism side will believe that next season will be better because of some of the other prospects we didnt see at the NHL level like Egor Sidorov. That said believing that this season would be better and that last season would have been better Im confident that it will either be somehow worse next year or just more of the same. I would like to see Gibson dealt, even if it was just for a pair of 4th round picks, but I just dont see it being possible so as long as Dostal is the starter next season I will be happy. Im going to be most intrigued to see if Vatrano is moved this offseason because it just feels like a natural thing to do for a player like him where he isnt likely to repeat the performance

  20. I don't know…I am a bit more optimistic for the Ducks than a lot of media outlets. No excuses but there are reasons the Ducks didn't hit 70 or more points this past season. Injuries. Every team has players that get injured but wow, the Ducks just couldn't catch a break especially with their young players. It happens. I don't expect so many of their young core miss the same amount of time next year and I expect them to really start that much anticipated next step to the next level. The only blessing in disguise I can see from a disappointing season is they are guaranteed a top five pick. This year's draft isn't as deep as last years but the top five and the players available in the top ten are very talented. A lot of top pairing potential there. The Ducks are going to be a powerhouse in two or three years and a legit cup contender. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Zegras and Terry get to the 70 point plus range next season either.

  21. The Zegras being traded talk was just a giant rumor that people believed so much more due to the Drysdale trade and contract talks. There is no reason to trade him. The guy had terrible puck luck this year. Once he finally got going, he was hurt again. Even with those numbers, most teams would take him in a heartbeat.

  22. The Zegras slander is getting old. Every 2nd jersey you seen in anaheim has his name on the back. 2 60+ point seasons and ended the year a PPG after injury. If anything McTavish not totally breaking out and taking 1-2 stupid penalties a game should put him on the trade block, cause Zegras isnt going anywhere

  23. I feel like we're really on the verge of being a competitive team.

We're finally saying our goodbyes to some veterans that, outside of some leadership, were often a minus on the ice or were in the way of the development of our youngsters.

Trading Zegras would be a mistake. The guy had a down season statwise but the games je was healthy, he actually played well even if it did not reflect in the statsheet. He was very good defensively and played with intensity. Every time he got hes legs under him, he just got injured again (most of them just freak injuries which do not concern me long term).

Getting Cutter was a great move by Verbeek. We had way too many Dmen coming up that did similair things like Jamie (and perhaps even better), so he was a great chip to flip for a guy with a lot of offensive firepower.

Our young Dmen look great, both Minty and Zelly are top 4 guys. Both skate well, shoot well and are great playmakes. They fit the mold of a modern Dman.

MacT matured a lot this season, again in terms of stats, it might not have been the season we expected, but he made strides.

The most important thing is just staying out of the box now. Shore up the discipline a bit. It felt like our PK was on the ice more than our first lines.

As for Gibson, we should have traded him at the deadline. It was clear Dosty outperformed him early on too. If there are takes, just flip Gibby. He also suffered long enough, he deserves to compete.

I fully expect us to be out of the play-offs for one more year. But its the year after next season i expect us to be back in.

  24. Ignoring your ridiculous Zegras take but the Ducks will be much better. They had a healthy top 6 for under 10 games this season. They were decimated by injuries to key players, including the guy you unfairly slandered, Zegras, who was playing through a groin injury. The only forward who played the full season was Vatrano.

  25. Zegras was arguably the ducks best player in most of his games after returning from injury. Production will come but his impact as soon as he hits the ice is immediate!

  26. Given how the Ducks managed to trade Drysdale for Gauthier, I don't think any team would give someone as meaningful as Z in comparison. Plus, he's well respected among the young players, so Verbeek would have to find someone who could be as impactful for the team too.

  27. New coach, new young players in the roster, new culture on the bench. This season was meaningful for the Ducks, who should now aim for some more points (if the hockey gods are on our side, ofc).
