Feel like every goal I see against the Leafs includes Marner and Reily
DarkLobster69
In fairness, that’s not his assignment, and most coaches preach that you never leave your assignment to fix another players (Morgan Reilly’s in this case) mistake, but just a terrible look with that effort on the season ending goal against.
InternationalPost447
12m? There’s fucking 40m on the ice watching pasta
CheesecakeOdd2087
Nylander just casually floating back.
CurlingTrousers
The absolute dogshit effort on this basic play is perfectly emblematic of this heartless, stupid team
What the Kentucky Fried Fuck is any Leaf doing except watching Pasta put them to sleep. They’re literally not even skating.
Want to beat the leaves? Just…basic effort.

It’s easy to sit back and be snarky but not really fair
The only deserved blame here is Rielly but still kinda tough on him when it’s a very rare play
That shoot in set play is not only (repeating for emphasis) very rare but also requires just the right bounce to do this. Usually it results in compelling puck possession near the net. This is the rare situation when A it occurs B it bounces just right and C the perfect player for it is on the receiving end. 1/100 odds for each occurrence, wow. Leafs are cursed.
This is not the thing to make fun of toronto for. Your team could easily lose like this. Many teams have.
Radu47
It is also really misguided to criticize the effort of any leaf forward in this situation. Very routine looking zone entry initially that would almost never require anything on their part. The puck trajectory as it bounced changed in an instant. Forwards react to shoot ins casually all the time. Even set plays like this as almost always the defender is able to keep the chasing forward at bay.
The onus is on the d to be prepared for any outcome, to be already moving their feet to deal with the shoot in, naturally.
Y’all are just creating narrative out of whatever scraps are lying around, vulture type behaviour.
lukaskywalker
It’s so poetic that Mitch had a front row view for them getting eliminated. How does he hop on the ice and that’s the effort. In overtime. Game 7. At centre ice he’s even with pasta. Then he just coasts for the rest of the game. Shame.
lukaskywalker
They had to know this is a play in bostons playbook. They countered it well all series. How do you just forget in overtime of game 7.
oestre
He was conserving his energy for next season, when we make our true run.
Negative_Eli
Toronto fans need to chant “Bitch Marner” every time he’s on the ice next season until he demands a trade or the leafs trade him. This is fucking disgusting.
BMBenzo
The full clip shows a better shot of Marner and pasta stride for stride in the neutral zone, he lets him go..any situation that’s usually ok but for a guy with such great defensive awareness, supposedly, as Marner, he should have picked up on that play coming. Pasta was absolutely bombing into the zone, there was no change Reilly could have covered him.
Micksar
I get people saying it wasn’t Nylander’s assignment… but he wasn’t prepared for ANYTHING. If there was a drop pass or rebound, etc… Nylander hasn’t done a shoulder check to see who is behind him and he’s completely unengaged physically. Terrible body language from a leader in game 7 OT.
Openfacesandwich12
Reilly can’t even beat a forward to the net when he has a ten foot lead lol
TiredReader87
Just look at Rielly’s effort. I want him gone.
SuperegoCG
Time to make like my toilet and blow it up!
Neither_Ad3397
Who was the center on this line for the leafs? Shouldn’t he be back playing a 200 foot game?
2FrogsMks
Lol blame Marner for Rielly’s terrible play… You all hate him so much you can’t even see clear.
Acceptable_Pair9999
Why would Marner follow Pasta back on a dump in? He’s a winger. That’s a combination of the d’s fault and a perfect pass

I didn’t have a horse in this race and I know y’all are gonna focus on this one goal because it ended the series but this game/series could have easily gone either way. Obviously.
Boston had at least 10 incidences where a skater fell down or fanned on a puck for no obvious reason in this game. If they had lost you’d have been watching a long bloopers reel of their mistakes instead of this one play.
Great series. Great comeback by the Leafs from being down 3-1. Great win for Boston.
punkdrummer22
Wtf is Samsonov doing though? He could easily have poked the puck away. Just errors by everybody
junkpunch2
I’ve been fortunate enough to see my team win a 3 or 4 cups. I’ve witnessed the level of all out effort it takes to win in this league. This is far from it.
schmarkty
Regardless of the leafs ineptitude that is an insane pass from Lindholm.
Mmmpizzza2
Delicious!!
MedicalITCCU
Ah, another Mid Marner masterpiece. I’m sure he’s happy with his playoff performance yet again
Yellinjerk
Fuck Marner, don’t know how the leafs could even consider resigning this guy for a huge amount of money. Time to trade him and his dad away for some real assets….which will be difficult because I believe Dubas, being the genius he is, gave little Mitchie a full no movement clause.
Night_Hawk-2023
I typically don’t like to blame goalies as it needs to go past five other guys before it goes past them BUT in this case, man, he should have taken that away before Pasta got there, poke it back to the corner or side boards.
Like everyone, we all saw Pasta winding up, Dman should have as well. Tough loss.
Game 7 losses are always extra tough. Florida are going to beat the Bruins…
cheeseburgerwaffles
I thought Marner was having a much better game than we saw from him this series until that last shift. Watching what happened unfold I knew this was going in well before he scored. The whole play was one big session of « no, no, no, NO! » in my mind.
v0t3p3dr0
Marner, Rielly, Nylander will make a combined $30M next season. Just coasting in on the back check. No big deal, just game 7 OT.
hey-there-yall
Haha. Look at Nylander.
Zealousideal-Pick799
I love how no one can spell Rielly’s name right. In 20 seconds reading this, I see Reilly, Reily, and Riley.
DesignerPlant9748
Morgan Reilly isn’t getting enough hate for this.

Marner and Nylander putting out that « 1030 pm on a Tuesday beer league game that only 7 guys showed up to » effort going on that backcheck. Even if he didn’t score and there was a loose rebound the trailing Bruin would have blown right past Nylander.
Africa_Twin_ftw
Lol, typical Leafs fans. Blame game on their players after the outcome. That was a bang bang play. Best d in the league isn’t turning and catching pasta when he’s breaking up the side full stride. It was a good play. Stop crapping on your team. Not the d’s fault, not the goalies fault. It was a good play that was finished by one of the best players in the league.
_makoccino_
Leafs playing defense like they’re up 5 goals with 1 minute left to play.
uSaltySniitch
Why didn’t Marner chase Pasta ? He had the chance to do so from the neutral zone.
How did Rielly lose a « battle » to the net with Pasta when he had 10ft advantage to work with initially ?
Why didn’t Samsonov poke the puck ? He had the time and the reach to do so instead of letting this play happen…
Really bad play overall and Pasta capitalized on it.

Did not affect the play one bit.
