Make the hard decisions, and hire Canadians.
Be way over the cap hit and win the cup.
Make the hard decisions and keep/acquire players that want to win the Cup and are willing to fight and train for it. Vegas's players all showed up and put up a winning performance in the playoffs.
There's no question that officiating was better that series too. I'm not saying Toronto lost because of bad officiating, but it sure would have been nice to see Florida's BS called like it was against Vegas.
Learn: If your 1C isn't doing it get another one
I think the biggest lesson learned is be in Bettmans good graces and you'll get the refs on your side
And Max Pacioretty still doesn't have a Cup
Make the difficult decision to be over the cap to win.
What the leafs can learn and WILL learn are two different things. I'm so tired of the leafs being well behind the curve in the NHL. It's like they have a learning disability. We thought it would change with this new regime but it has only emphasized all the bad things about the NHL ie Deeply flawed rosters. Mediocre drafting. Overpaying Stars. Poor culture. Lack of intensity. On and on. To be honest the entire organization looks shell shocked that this has happened which is an even scarier indictment of how flawed they really are.
If there's another Toronto expansion team we can finally build that championship team easy.. Seattle will win before the leafs and the 2030 Toronto Tarantulas expansion team will win the cup no doubt. We can all be day 1 fans lol
That Canadians love playing in the States
Go 20 plus million over the cap helps too
So the Leafs Lost against a Totally Injured Florida and could barely Win One Game.
If that doesn't Prove to You Guys that the Leafs Prefer the Softest Players in the League, I don't know how to show You.
I think we made the hard decision and big risk to sign John Tavares and have 3 players at 11M. We made the hard decision, just a bad one.
They could've been doing this last year if they hadn't traded Fleury.
But Vegas kept their core players. Marchessault going into the playoffs was not playing that good. Stone wasn't at his best Karlsson didn't really show up. Maple Leafs would have traded Marchessault or Martinez. I see Leafs fans blaming Marner. Marner and Reilly were the Leafs best players in the playoffs. Marner may not have scored a lot second round but nobody did. I hope Marner goes to a team that will actually appreciate what he does. Leafs deserve to lose.
All teams make hard decisions. The only real lesson we can learn from Vegas is that the refs definitely play favorites and that cap space can be tricked.
Stash 14 million on ltir and boom cup run. And don't give Vegas all the credit the lightning already gave the roadmap. Congrats to the VGK enjoy the cup for the year
The attention span only gets smaller.
We need to make hard decisions just what to eat and live on
Keep everything the same usually ends up with the same results
Harm people and don't get any punishment for it. Great lesson
The only formula that has ever worked is chemistry. Thats it
The 🌸 fiasco did not result in a better team. Both the knights and MAF took emotional hits, and the front office came very close to having fan torches and pitchfork riots. (Figuratively speaking, of course). And his "replacement" Robin Lehner, was not better. It wasn't until this year when Lehner had all kinds of surgeries and was out for the season that we began to see improvements. Logan Thompson was our 🌸 replacement. Adorable and very, very good! (I am a woman. Of course he's going to be adorable). After having missed the playoffs, finally getting rid of DeBoer, because the Sharks have never won anything so why the hell would we want their coach?, and acquiring Bruce Cassidy meant that fans were less resentful. There are a bunch of us OG Knights fans who will always carry a bit of salt regarding Fleury, but that's what they have to realize is the price they're going to pay. While we love the cup, there's a part of us that will never forgive the front office for how very badly they treated Fleury. If anyone is interested in how the VGK came about and how important 🌸 was to our team, find the video "Valiant." And then you'll see why Vegas fans are totally nuts. I'm one of them!
Hindsight is 20/20.
The morale of the story: there's no exact science to building a championship team. You get lucky bringing in/drafting the right players, coach etc. I don't believe one organization is "smarter" than most; they don't have a crystal ball, sometimes u step in shit.
Who are you suggesting they trade? Oh wait you're not going to because all you do is complain. Why don't you tell us what the hard decisions are that have to be made
Tampa traded Martin St. Louis for Ryan Callahan and a first round pick. A captain for captain deal. 8 years later cup. That’s the type of trade the Leafs need
The Fleury trade was so bad I literally skipped a season over it and probably would have skipped more if the didnt get rid of deboer, who i never reallt liked. Thankfully only one because if it was more than that I would have missed my home team raising the cup
