@Panthers de la Floride

1. Losing game 4 so they can win it at home has been the narrative or excuse since I started watching hockey. This isn't anything new.

  2. People who think this go in the flat earth or fake moon category . These people don’t have brains or logic lol

  3. Over a decade ago, I was sitting in the stands of the Bell Centre in Montreal waiting for the start of the Jets v Canadiens game and I had a conversation with a noticably-intoxicated young man. He insisted that the games were rigged and that the NHL "had a plan". I listened to all of his reasons why he believed the games were rigged and – to be honest – none of them really made sense if you thought about them for more than 5 seconds. After he finished presenting his "case" for why he thought the games were rigged, I replied that I disagreed for one reason and one reason only: the puck bounces. Brownian motion is a thing. I told him that when the puck bounces, you'll never know how it will bounce, how many times it will bounce, where it will bounce and what the repurcussions of that bounce might be. We've all seen the replays of a shot going wide of the net (no chance for a "shot-on-goal" to occur) but instead the puck hits the legs, sticks, butts or backs of 2, 3, 4 or even 5 players before ending up in the back of the net. All while the goalie is flailing like crazy and contorting like hell to react to the puck's re-direct, all while the defensemen is wondering why HE was the last person it bounced off of to score an own-goal in his last ever NHL game in front of 100 family and friends in attendance and all while the coach on the bench is convincing himself that the universe hates him because of that one time he had the vanilla ice-cream when he could have had chocolate. Hell…I'm sure Patrik Stefan's most famous moment of missing an open net on a breakaway wouldn't have happened if…you guessed it…the puck didn't bounce unpredictably. Shit happens, and because of that you can't "rig" a hockey game. It's simply impossible, given the incalculable number of variables happening either at the same time of the bounce event, or just before it or just after it.

Predicting randomness in a high-speed game such as ice hockey is a fruitless and as much of a waste of time as trying to solve the 3-body problem. You can't. And to think that you can not only predict it but that you can CONTROL it…well…that's silliness on par with the most silly of conspiracy theories and maybe those people should have others tie their shoes for them.

BTW…the intoxicated young gentlemen I was speaking to had no response to my comment about the puck bouncing. He simply "shrugged" and didn't bother with a counter-argument. And the older, silver-haired gentlemen and his wife sitting in the row in front of me both turned, smiled and gave me a "thumbs up" when I mentioned that the puck bounced.

  4. it's definitely a trend to blame refs across sports. Here in Australia, the head ref of the Australian Football League (AFL) is being publicly targeted by the head of the biggest union (CFMEU). Why? because he worked for s government department that clashed with the union before he became a ref, and the union boss claims this is proof he's dodgy, will fix games to suit the state government (?) its very strange and the left wing politicians have refused to support the actions (they would normally support unions). he's been stalked and received threats! all over reffing a footy game!

  5. I have a line about conspiracies. Never underestimate human incompetence. Grand conspiracies are rare but mistakes happen all the time. Ocams razor is your friend, and the simplest solution is rarely a bunch of people keeping a secret.

  6. My biggest beef NHL is that they need to improve the officiating and call penalties evenly through every game and every series. No more putting their whistles away in the third period.

  7. The nhl can't possibly be picking who is actually going to win this – with the gambling they've actually been advertising they'd be in so much legal hot water it'd be insane.

  8. It's pretty easy to blame one player when they make significantly more money than they should, or they make extremely stupid amounts of money. That's what the money is for, to win.

  9. That’s a lie Toronto makes the most money without being in the playoffs. They sell out every regular season game. It’s like the New York knicks they don’t need to win shit but as a franchise they still make money off their name

  10. What happened is the penalty against nurse was not a 5 min major and ejection. Then the short handed goal happened and the panthers were like ok we will just go back home

  11. The league/Bettman definitely has a plan and tries to manipulate what they can. They aren’t guiding refs to call a game a certain way but they definitely influence and “guide” the draft so certain teams get certain players like Bedard going to Hawks instead of Sharks and they discipline certain players/teams differently than others like Rome getting 4 games in a final vs Scott Stevens getting a conn smythe for the same type of hits. An email scandal on disciplinary action came out a few seasons ago about that. They also wanted nothing to do with the hockey Canada scandal and blew that off like nothing to keep their image/marketing clean. The NHL had a business plan agenda and they carry it out more in marketing than fixing games.

  12. They're saying the same thing about the Boston Celtics! It's ridiculous! They lost by over 30 points! Dallas played better defense and finally got help from the role players. It's the dumbest thing ever

  13. While I personally can't disagree with your theory, you have to admit it's a bit odd both the NBA Celtics and the NHL Panthers both have 3-0 leads in their series and they both lose game four before going to their own buildings for game five. You have to admit it is a bit strange.

I predict both home teams will get it done in game five. Let the conspiracies continue.

  14. I'm trying to understand why a team wins 3 games, then lose game 4 'knowing' all they have to do is win ONE just ONE game to win the Stanley Cup ? If The Oilers win this Stanley Cup, it would go down as one of the comebacks in recent NHL history. 🇨🇦🏒🏆

  15. I’m not at all trying to invalidate your overall point, but I just want to point out that “hundreds of people” can absolutely keep their mouth shut, especially when crime is involved.

Consider how the slave trade today is 4x bigger than it was 400 years ago, according to gov data, and ask yourself how much overhead is required for an operation like that.

That’s a lot of people keeping their mouths shut.

Again, not to disagree with your overall point, but basing it on criminals not being able to keep their mouths shut is a very naive perspective.

  16. i didnt watch the video yet….just wante to say in response to the title : Carey Price's last game 10-2 against Florida is a prime example of players throwing the game

  17. People saying "they tanked game 4 to win the Cup at home because the odds of a team winning four straight are so low" are forgetting one thing: if Edmonton was actually given the game 4 win, they now only need to win 3 in a row, the odds of which are way higher.

  18. Wholeheartedly agree that there's no grand conspiracy, but I do think sometimes biases can affect some games. I have no doubt refs do their level best to be as impartial and consistent as possible, but they're still human. If Toronto is playing Columbus, and you make a bad call against CBJ, there will be essentially no repercussions. Flip that and make a bad call against Toronto, if it's a big enough game, you could be getting death threats against your family.

Plus, keep in mind, it's not just teams that get eliminated in the playoffs. Refs get dismissed as the number of teams is reduced. Do you wanna be a ref that made a bad call against a league darling like Vegas when the league decides which refs they're dismissing?
