  1. As a flames fan this feels pretty underwhelming considering most of us were expecting Jersey's #10 pick to be the deal. Just goes to show that we as fans don't know anything about the market lol. Although, if Bahl plays well for us and becomes a second pairing dman and we keep him long term then we could definitely see the deal as a win.

  2. Seems like a win-win. NJ gets their starter for the next couple seasons, instantly making them better, and likely springing them right back into contender status. The Flames get a young full time NHL defenseman that can spring into the lineup with more opportunity to develop in Calgary, they also get a first (likely late) but still a first nonetheless. I'd say pretty solid deal for both.

  3. And now, after this, I don't think New Jersey is going to be in the Ullmark sweepstakes. But they could still trade for Ullmark to have a Markstrom and Ullmark tandem

  4. I think its a fantastic trade for the devils, no real need for a mid 1st (most likely) with the prospect pool they have, and Kevin Bahl is good but he takes so many penalties and does not use his size at all. Plus the retention gives us both Markstrom and Allen at 6 Mill ish and more room for another D man move.

  5. It was just adjusted to 31.25% Flames retain Markstrom’s contract. So Devils carry $4.125 Mil for the next 2 years. Not only that, Calgary also avoids Markstrom’s July 1st signing bonus.

  6. Looking at it from a 3rd person view since I’m not a fan of either team. It feels like New Jersey overpaid. But not by a ton. Considering goaltending was their biggest need it should be easier to swallow. For Calgary having Dustin wolf makes it easier to lose Markstrom and get a decent return. Honestly it’s more than I thought Calgary would get.

  7. Most of us in NJ think we gave up too much for 2 years worth of markstrom
We would’ve preferred and 2nd and 4th round picks with 2 or 3 prospects as a more fair return but if he carries us in the playoffs next year it will be worth it.
If we are a 1st round exit or less it will suck
Similar to the Toffoli trade last year with giving up sharangovich.
If the team has success we won’t mind but if all hell breaks loose again this trade will be ugly.

  8. Seems like a steal for the Devils at first, but then you realize that Calgary couldnt really do too much navigating that NMC. Pretty fair

  9. Any trade where we don’t give up holtz and the 10OA is a win for us. Bahl is good but easily can be replaced by a better player (tanev comes to mind. big, defensive defenseman. he’d be top 4 and casey would play the 7th D role bahl played.)

  10. Devils are making the second round with this move…unless Marky gets injured.
Leaf's really messed the bed not getting this trade done…4 million is cheap for a number 1.

  11. Just a bandaid solution to their goaltendinh woes. Markstrom is already 34 and wont be good for much longer

  12. Great Video, as usual, Nyquist – it's not a surprise, especially a low return, given that he had wanted out Calgary, leaving them with not that much of a leverage. Let me know what you think

  13. This won’t solve the Devils’ problems. Their blue line is so offense focused they’re going to hang any goalie they have out to dry. I think Markstrom is overrated tbh and he’s on the wrong side of his 30’s. They’re going to be right back in this situation real quick

They’ll be better, I just don’t think much better

  14. As a devils fan I’m worried that he won’t be as good as he was this past season and in 2 years we are once again looking for a big name goalie to replace him all over again

  15. As a Devils fan, im pretty happy. To get a good goalie with out having to give up pick 10 or Holtz is a win in my book.
