@Predators de Nashville

Great kid, not worth $8M AAV.

$6.5M AAV for 4-6 years? Yes.

Should have shopped him last season

  3. Saros is a fine goalie, but not an $8m+ goalie. Compared to other goalies in the field who have a more proven track record, better overall performance, and could do the job just as effectively as him it would be insane to go long term on him at this point.

You obviously want to get value out of him and have someone who can assist with askarov coming up. Odds on either getting someone middling and bringing up askarov OR a short term big gun. Saros wont do a 1-2 year extension.

I heard a huge discussion on the backup (his name escapes me) and how he was going to the free agency market, maybe as a 1-B goalie isn a 2-goalie system. Now he could be 1-A. Interesting turn of events.

Juice lost a bit of negotiating power after this past season’s numbers.

I like juice but not for that much money. If that’s really what he wants then I hope some other team can take that contract. I’d hate to see him leave but we have other options in between the pipes.

Saros compared to current goalies (and Carey Price) with a cap hit of $6m or greater:

Goalie | Current Age | Age at Signing | Length | Exp. Year | Cap Hit
    :–: | :–: | :–: | :–: | :–: | :–:
    Juuse Saros | 29 | 26 | 4 years | 2025 | $5.0m
    Carey Price | 36 | 29 | 8 years | 2026 | $10.5m
    Sergei Bobrovsky | 35 | 30 | 7 years | 2026 | $10.0m
    Andrei Vasilevsky | 29 | 25 | 8 years | 2028 | $9.5m
    Connor Hellebuyck | 31 | 31 | 7 years | 2031 | $8.5m
    Ilya Sorokin | 28 | 28 | 8 years | 2032 | $8.25m
    John Gibson | 30 | 25 | 8 years | 2027 | $6.4m
    Jordan Binnington | 30 | 27 | 6 years | 2027 | $6.0m
    Jacob Markstrom | 34 | 30 | 6 years | 2026 | $6.0m

Why have an appetite when you have an elite prospect blocked by him and need to rebuild anyways?

I really hope they do the right thing

Realistically, Juice is somewhere between $6M-$8M but not over $8M. He wasn’t near as good as Hellebuyck this season and isn’t better than those making more than Helle either. We would be far better off using that money on offensive talent.
