    > The Philadelphia Flyers announced today they have extended forward Travis Konecny to an eight-year contract worth an average annual value (AAV) of $8.75 million beginning with the 2025-26 season, according to General Manager Daniel Brière

South of 9. Not going to get better than that. I think it’s a fine signing, but I want to see DH’s take.

For those unaware, this is a call to arms for u/DH28hockey. Vote for him for Hoagie Hall.

To be clear, I would’ve preferred a trade, but that requires a willing partner and a sensible offer on both sides.

Also, if you think signing TK is the death of this team, please just block me and move on.

  3. ProfessorDerp22

Love the guy but sheeeeeeesh, i dunno.

  4. upcan845

One year into a « rebuild, » without a 1C or 1D in the pipeline, and Briere is re-signing TK until he’s 36. It was never a rebuild.

The Flyers just can’t fathom ever taking a serious step back in order to build for the future. Always need instant gratification.

  5. BumblerNamedOy

Im just happy it’s under 9 tbh

  6. Flyersandcaps

Should be fun for five or six years and then… would have preferred no extension and a deadline trade. But so be it.

  7. HockeyNut2

I love it. That guy is a Flyer and he earned it.

  8. briandeli99

I think Michkov coming early changed everything. If Michkov was still 2 years away, I don’t think they do this. I think Travis would’ve been traded.

  9. Avonbarksdale40

Love TK. Really should have traded him for more assets

  10. Big_Acanthocephala14

Very happy about this. The right side is set in Philly and will be one of the best 1 2 punch wingers in the league.

  11. RebuildFletcher

Conflicted about this. They are obviously banking on him aging like a fine wine. Age 28-36 contract isn’t crazy. $8.75M… I think it’s a fair deal, possibly a slight overpay but definitely in the ballpark. I just personally feel like this is adding unnecessary risk in a Championship window down the road. We are what, 3-4 well executed seasons away from being competetive. Usually these 8-year contracts are signed because you are contenders right now and the back-end of that deal doesn’t really matter. Here you will get his prime years during a rebuild, and the later years in a window of contention. Love the player, don’t love the risk factor involved.

  12. FlyorDieJM

I’m not upset but I’m not foolish enough to think they’re actually rebuilding. Can’t wait to see what the plan is for this team to get to where they need to be.

  13. saycheese95

Happy it’s under 9 but more than Reinhart’s new deal is pretty funny imo

  14. vinny8244

It’s a good contract. Hes better than mostly everyone who got 8mil AAV this offseason and the cap will go up further next year. Under 9 is solid. The term is a little long but not a total deal breaker given what the cap should be in 6-8 years you can easily retain half and trade him if need be.

  15. SarGhoul24

Man this sub has become such a negative place. Every move is followed by “this team can’t do anything right”. Michkov is here – you aren’t going to stash your best prospect who came 2-3 years early on a team that’s tanking for the 1st pick in the draft. The rebuild has to be sped up.

  16. CybertronGuy98

I’ll take south of 9 tbh. Would have preferred 6 years instead of 8 but, Danny really hasn’t done anything so far to give me too much cause for concern. Now Scott on the other hand, I love Laughton but, better flip him at the deadline

  17. I love TK glad he was signed happy for him! He will have a Marchand type career and you will all eat your words!

  18. EatUpBonehead

Fuck yeah. Flyer for life hopefully.

  19. Worth it. He’s going to have the C much quicker than we’re all expecting.

TK is the literal definition of a Philadelphia Flyer, and exactly who I think Torts believes TK to be the type of player he would’ve been on the ice.

  20. Bug--Man

How cool is it to know you get the stability of 9 years. Pumped to have koneckny for the long haul

  21. Careless-Pattern1690

TK, Michkov, Tippett, and Foerster. I think this teams gonna be a force as soon as Michkov matures into an NHL player

  22. Gamingnerd10

    Mitchkov – Coots – TK
    Tippett – Frost – Foerster

    Love that top 6

  23. DudicalAwesome

I wasn’t done being Gay 4 TK anyways.

  24. datyoungknockoutkid

Whooooole lotta bitching in this thread for a deal that really isn’t too bad.

  25. flyersnstuff

This is how I’m looking at it: after this season’s free agency, it’s clear middle-six forwards are gonna get paid handsomely on the open market. So either the Flyers give it to Konecny now or they give 5-7 years to another guy a couple seasons from now with a comparable AAV.

I don’t think I’d necessarily want to do either, but I’ll take the guy that I know works in this system, city, team etc. over a Chandler Stephenson, Jake DeBrusk, Sean Monahan even if Konecny will make a little more.

  26. NeverStopChasing28

It’ll look better if he continues his upward trend, but for a 27 year old that has only had over 60 points three times and never over 70, its a bit of an overpay.

  27. ThadTheImpalzord

Finally!! We don’t have to see all these trade TK posts anymore

  28. Roll-Me-Through

I’ve been saying TK isn’t going anywhere. I think this contract isn’t just about a calculus of pure production/age considerations. TK is a talented player who really *wants to be a Flyer.* He is 100% committed to playing in a city that from an outsider’s perspective could look undesirable (see Cutter, maybe Kolosov) and for a coach that players could be leery of. This is the org saying that good players DO want long careers in Philly, that guys playing under Torts are having a good experience, and that if you show that commitment to the Flyers, the Flyers will take note and reciprocate. A contract that a good player can be happy with helps put out the message that we are a desirable destination for those free agents we might be looking for next summer, or maybe it could help take us off of some players’ no-trade lists, as will having Michkov on the squad and starting to look (dare I say it) competitive again.

  29. aquaculturist13

Pretty much spot on re: market value, but I was hoping TK would be discounted for 8 years. It should age well provided the cap continues to rise and TK doesn’t fall off a cliff, but it’s on the expensive side for me.

Flyers putting a lot of eggs into the 2025 draft basket. If they can snag a 1C and 1D in the next few years through draft, trade, and/or FA, I think they see TK as a veteran fairly priced winger in the middle six when 2028 rolls around.

  30. The_Flyers_Fan

Great signing and make no mistake, this move benefits the rebuild by having a right wing in addition to michkov that you can have playing top line minutes, so when michkov has some struggles, which don’t kid yourselves it will happen, you can move him down the lineup and have him learn against less quality competition. This is all about michkov.

  31. crafbicycle

Voracek and Giroux signed nearly identical contracts to each other 8 and 10 years ago respectively, both around 8.2. At the time of signing, Giroux’s was 12% and Jakes was 11.2%; TK’s is 10% and doesn’t start until next year with a rising cap while overproducing Voracek prior to signing and doing so with nearly 0 supporting cast. This is a fair value contract for the impact TK actual has on our hockey team imo

  32. throwawayjoeyboots

This organization gets heart palpitations over the thought of trading an aging bad depth player at this point in Scott Laughton. So from that standpoint it’s not surprising everything else is pretty much nailed to the floor also.

  33. JadeNimbus16x

Excellent. It would have been foolish to lose him

  34. NowFook

Not a fan of 8 years but at least its under 9 mil.

On the bright side this will definitely help the Flyers turn it around quicker. Hes the teams best player and super exciting to watch.

TK, Michkov, Tippett, Foerster, Farabee is a heck of a winger group. Now we need to find a 1C and top pair D …

Will the contract age well? Probably not. But thats a problem 6+ years down the road and may not even handcuff us then.

The Stars are vastly overpaying Seguin and Benn both 9+ mil and still are contenders

  35. realdeal411

I fully expect people to hope he sucks so they can be « right »

I also think those people are idiots but unfortunately they’re there

    I’m happy TK is here

  36. throwawayjoeyboots

… And, we’ve got Cootsy locked up through 2029 (aging well), next step lock up Laughtsy through 2030 Danny!

  37. TealHousewife

Well, I’m relatively new to being a Flyers fan, but I started following the team largely because of TK. I ended up with him on my fantasy team this year along with a handful of other Flyers players and started watching some games and pretty much immediately fell in love with the scrappiness and grit he has that is tempered by his genuine leadership abilities. Dude can cook, too. I’m primarily a Stars fan and I couldn’t help but root for him when he scored two shorties on us in a single game even as I was dying inside. I know people were pretty divided on whether he should stay or go, but I for one am delighted. I feel like he embodies what I’ve come to understand as the spirit of Flyers hockey.
